Where does it say "conservatives" in those articles? It mentions christians, but not their political affilation. They could be liberation theologists for all you know.

that's highly unlikely

Well it does say conservatives in the title of the second one...

And anyway, when we look at the kind of people who oppose evolution, they are usually the more right-leaning christians, while Liberation Theologists are usually more left-leaning, and advocate a more metaphorical interpretation of the Bible.

Evolution never happened, at least not in my family!

Religious right would be a more correct way of putting it. The politicians that pander to them probably do not believe in half the crap they do to appease them. They are a powerbase and voting block used by some conservatives and a damn good source of income. I really hate to defend conservatives but judging the ones that I personally know, this is not a fair assesment of them. Shit Pat Robertson preaches all of his crap about God and in turn smuggles diamonds and supports third world nations dictators. These people are just fools and tools that the conservatives have used for thier real agenda keeping and making the wealthy more powerful.

I find it difficult to understand exactly how evolution can be wrong. It is irrefutable, universally proven and as logically sound as 2+2=4.

If somone could explain exactly how they beleive that evolution is not true, it would be much apreciated...

I would also like to hear someone explain how evolution isn't true.

Believing that the Earth is 6,000 years old, and that somehow humans co-existed with dinosaurs, is absurd. This is proof of just how blind and stupid people can be.

There is no such thing as evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allowed to survive!

That is truly wise I must inform Rael of this wisdom :)

ROFL! I supposed it was only a matter of time before quotes coming from the Chuck Norris fact list would arive here.

Anyway. I'd like a ID theorist (I cringe at calling them this, but its a hell of a lot better then calling them scientists) take on the Meme theory, and Cultural Evolution. It's been prooven in society, and is prooven in documented life on this planet. It works nearly the same way as Genial Evolution does, or at least the same in a more generalised sense.

To quote Frink; "Those monkeys are going to pay!"

It is quite possible to reject evolution and still sit on the left. It isn't (at least personally) that I see something wrong with it, I merely feel we have better thiongs to concern ourselves with than getting into a pissing contest with fools who still believe origins and futures and more important than current conditions. The fixation on alphas and omegas is downright sad, really because we're capable of so much more. The time invested in arguing points of a theory vs. mythology is at this point far too much.

Another point, Intelligent Design, while equally ludicrous is not so much the net result of injecting the concept of a divine being into evolution but rather the net result of a western embrace of capitalism. Is that "God's" hand that has pushed things along or is it Smith's invisible hand made metaphysical? In a culture steeped in Calvinism and seemingly convinced that earthly wealth has a direct relation to moral character, there is therefore precedent made with regards to ascribing religious dogma to liberal market ideology. ID, I would argue, simply takes it one step further by designating liberalism as the new religion (hard to argue, really, even though most of us, myself included, are sickened by it) while having reified Capitalism, uses it to explain simply a different phenomenon now--not just market oriented or physical but metaphysical and biological as well. These aren't fundies using God to explain all, these are neo-cons and neo-liberals using capitalism to justify all.

But I distinctly remember reading the gospel of Luke where during one of his parables in the desert, Jesus had to stop and pause as a herd of Brontosaurus were migrating.

look im not saying evolution is wrong, but it could be, now couldnt it. What the bible says is clear and utter bullshit, and ID is nonsense too, and i agree evolution sounds logical, has some good proof, but hey it could still be wrong. No need for it to declare it as the one good thought in existance for the rest of eternity.

Absolutely. One look at the rhetoric Darwin himself used in The Origin of Species is enough evidence to me that his argument is suspect....though again, I don't think it really matters
