What are your thoughts on E85 ethonal? I believe that it will be one our first alternative fuels that will be mass producted. GM already has 1.5 million vehicles on the road, and ethonal fuel stations are poping around the US. It's a domestic resource, cleaner burning, currently cheaper than other alternative fuels, and forgien dependence on oil will reduce.

That site's a General Motors site; and as you might expect its goal is solely to make GM look green.
Corn ethanol is mass-produced already thanks to tax subsidies. But it makes absolutely no economic or environmental sense.
You're burning food, for crying out loud!
It probably takes more fuel to power the tractors to grow the corn....

Ya, ethanol is extremely energy intensive to manufacture and not economic or environmentally sound at all.

If a car engine isn't tuned for it, it will be destroyed by it, thus adding to the waste.

They've sold that E85 stuff at a local gas station near me for a while. It's about 60-50 cents cheaper, but in the long run you don't save that much money because you get less MPG. It is supposed to burn cleaner though. Most of the gas around me has 10% ethanol in it.
Too bad my Toyota can't handle any ethanol.

By the time you've grown all the corn you need, made all of the macinery, processed the corn, made the fuel, transported it, and put it in your car, all you've done is spent barrels and barrels of petrol to get one gallon of inneficient corn oil. Anybody who does that can be classified as a fool.

Thats why around me they have lots of corn, a few ethanol plants, and it is sold locally. Transportation costs are kept down.

That' fine if it's local, but it's not feasible on a large scale.

It's good to get cars on an alternative fuel. It's a step in the right direction; the real benefit will come when the tractors and the factories that make it are powered by it.

E85 wrecks engines not desinged for it and burns hotter thus kills mpg because it has like 105 octane

It all depends on what kind of car you have. With my toyota you can't even put E10 in it. However, with some GM cars you can put E85 in them. You do get less MPG with it, but it also is quite a bit cheaper.

Brazil has a pretty good sugar cane ethanol trade going on
it's okay
i think it's subsidized, making it a lot cheaper
in the end the cost is about the same as gas, since the mpg is lower
