Dude just download them. That's what I do.

1. download a p2p program.
2. Download your little heart away.
3. If you're concerned about getting caught, use an anonymous proxy.

but if you're really interested in taking such a risk, there are little metallic strips (and sometimes a larger chip) in the cd case that work with security system. Tear those off without someone seeing you (which means you'll likely have to open the case) and the alarms don't go off.

Pizza boxes with aluminium inside to stop the alarm from tripping.

Yeah, or you can line a shopping bag with aluminum foil as well, just make sure to cover it at the top.

If you can get the case open you can just take the cd out as well. That's usually best.

But as was mentioned above, why not just download?

If you don't want to download, why not buy a CD, keep the receipt, then return it for a refund or swap it for another CD.

That way you get the CD you want for free, or two CDs for the price of one.

I've never tried that.

I download.

This happens a lot where I work. It's almost impossible to prove that they got a new product from inside the shop, if you didn't actually see it.

Although there is a rule that purchased products aren't allowed back in, the customer usually gets away with it by playing stupid.

what professional cd thieves do is carry a blade and when noone is looking, slice the bottom part of the packaging and slip the cd out and put the case back on the shelf, no sweat.

if you're on a network and you have itunes, there are generally always people who share their music. download ourtunes. it's not considered illegal filesharing. i've found some awesome stuff.

I can guarantee you that any of the above p2p systems, including bittorrent, will be shut down within a few years or altered a la napster unless they're based on a gnutella network.

encephalon, can you explain how they'd manage to force a change into bittorrent? I just can't see how they would.

Livetrueordie

I only p2p i know of that has been shut down is Napster. WinMX should be working in the future.
Limewire sucks don't get it. Get Shareazza, Ares, Frostwire, or Freenet. Freenet is a change to the internet it somewhat hard to explain, look it up, it s really cool and innovative, and fucks the censors.

BitTorrent would be harder so shut down since the BitTorrent client isn't illegal. It's the websites that host the torrents that are illegal, and sometimes that isn't even true because sometimes that .torrent files aren't illegal. As long as my Pirate Bay friends in Sweden are still running I'm happy.

If you really want to steal CD's (though it isn't exactly a revolutionary fucking act), you do what some others said.

1) You go and get some foil (steal it for that real leftist feeling).

2a) If female, get a handbag with an inside pocket big enough for a CD and the encompassing bull shit.
Line that pocket with foil on both sides.

2b) Else/or, get one of those shoulder bags or something as above.
Line that pocket with foil.

2c) Put mobile phone in pocket and try and call it. If it rings, you need more foil.

3a) Leave bag at home and go and check out the joint.
-Do they have cameras? Do they have TVs where the footage goes? Do they have mirrors? See if there are any blind spots that aren't covered by cameras and mirrors.

3b) Look around and see if you can spot undercover store-security. It might be anyone. Walk around and put stuff in your pockets. Watch if anyone is following you. Go and buy some little thing (chocolate or a pen). Before you go out the store unload your pockets and give all the stuff to the checkout staff, say you changed your mind (get everything out!). If you see someone outside who looks annoyed or something, they are probably security.

3c) Leave.

4a) Come back another day and get things you want.
4b) Put them in the blind spot you find earlier.

5a) Best way to do this is with a friend if not skip to step 5. Get bag. Go back to store after a shift change (a few hours maybe, I do not know).
5b) Get friend to go in earlier then you and start doing step 3. (Don't talk or even acknowledge friend, treat them as a stranger.)
5c) Before they get out of the store, go around a bit then go to blind spot where stuff is. Look at other stuff making sure no one is around (there might be more store-cops), but don't be obvious. Look at other crap on display.
5d) Put stuff in pocket of bag.
5e) Leave before friend does.

6a) Very important! !!!! !! !! !
You might get court. You might set off alarms. You might get arse rapped by the justice system. Store security will fuck you over. They will see the foil and know that you were prepared. They will not let you go lightly. They might call the cops.
6b) But you can be prepared. Don't have any ID. Don't let 'em take a photo of you, but otherwise tell 'em all your details (fake name and address of course, practice on a friend). Don't sign anything. Act innocent, claim you saw these instructions on the web and just wanted to see if they worked. Cry abit. Ask 'em not to tell your parents (might not work if you need a shave or look over 16). Say it was the first time.

7) And lastly. This is for education and entertainment purposes only. If you follow these instructions you might well be silly (I just made ‘em up as I wrote ‘em up. I haven’t used ‘em before.)

^ lol... has anyone really ever tried this though just walking in place and running out? I assume it would work as long as your faster than a middle age store clerk.

if not, what about running into a store with like five of your friends and raiding the place and then running out? How could they catch you?

25th March 2006, 05:29
Because you might want to go back to the place again? They might have cameras?

They might have big beefy men who would just love an excuss to practice rugby on punk kid.

If you are going to break the law, you do it smartly. Not stupidly.

You know what I don't like about downloading music from stuff like limewire. ITs all the fucking adware shit that comes along with it. Pretty soon my computer will be in the dumps cause of that.

I haven't bought a cd in like two years. I just keep listening to my old cds.

You're good, Apathy Maybe....damn good.

[Epoche kneels before the master of thieves]

Oh, and you should have a partner. Its always a good idea to work in teams. Use him as a distraction, obviously.

Back in the day we used to steal lock-sets and dead-bolts (the irony!) from large hardware stores and walk right up to the service desk and return them. When they ask for a receipt, we tell em it was a gift and that we don't have it. Usually, if you approach a staff member that looks young and/or green, a "trainee," they usually don't care. Just another disgruntled employee who probably wants the store to get ripped off anyway.

[laughing]

Is that for real? I was just about to go and try that but then I scrolled to the bottom and saw your nice little confession.

I've never stolen anything in my life but for some reason the idea of stealing CDs really appealed(s) to me. Those shits are expensive!

I had a friend who was ridiculously good at this technique. He'd get a hoodie and look at Cd's, slyly slipping them into the front pouch. He'd get literally six, and then use a razor he brought and put his hands in the pouch and cut out CDs, then he'd put them back.

Although, eventually he got caught and apparently they had suspected something was up for a while and he had like a few thousand dollars in fines and had to give some CDs back. But hey, if your a pro, go for it. :D

Do an Internet search for booster bags and shoplifting techniques.

The reason I had that last part is manyfold. One, I don't want revleft to get into trouble. I did make it up, so check other places first. I want you to look at other places first, I could be wrong. And you might not be silly if you do it the correct way.

Try this if you are worried about foil. Get a bag, line a front pocket with foil. Goto a library and get lots of books. Too many to hold, place 'em in your bag (one in the small pocket lined with foil). Get 'em out of the bag and check 'em out (except for one in small pocket). If you walk through the thing and set off the alarm, go back to the desk and get the book out and say you forgot about it, check it out. If the alarm doesn't go off, good! Make sure you take the book back later.

(and some links to shoplifting stuff on the Internet (please mirror if you can))
Note: Some of these techniques only work if the stuff is not electronically tagged. Most CD's will be tagged, in which case do the foil thing.
Note2: Many of these techniques are bullshit.
