I'm a fan of HIM from finland-I know they seem a little soft but Ville keeps his lyrics real-how we feel when we're in love-the realistic part of love..they are good to listen too when you want to chill with your loved one...

In every possible way they are bad.

This is not an opinion, it is intrinsic fact

but if you like them then fine...

I don't get it though, if it's all about love then why do so many goth and people that like death metal like HIM?

to state a fact, there has to be proof, atleast!

I'm not a big fan of HIM, but theyre music is cool, and i like to listen them when im in a depressed/emotional mood. Ville has one of the best voices i've ever heard.

I don't like HIM very much. How on earth are their lyrics "realistic"?!!! It's all about love and death. I used to like HIM, before they got big (2000/2001) but I got a bit bored to be honest. They're really same-y.

The only good thing about HIM is that they did a song with Apocalyptica, who fucking rule.

ReD_ReBeL

HIM=His Infernal Majesty, not 'imperial', His Infernal Majesty is another name for Satan. don't worry there not satanists and none of them are religious, well the singer Ville valo is a Pagan.

Sentinel
13th February 2006, 18:27
well the singer Ville valo is a Pagan.

Damn, now I can't like them anymore.. Pagans are nuts. At least those I've run into on the internet. :D

No, who cares as long as his music isn't religious.

And I can like almost all music even though it's major label and mainstream. A good song is a good song. Refusing to listen to "commercial" music is kind of lifestyleist and absurd in my opinion.

they truly raped Wicked Game

Who's song is it originally?

ReD_ReBeL
13th February 2006, 18:47
Chris Isaac originally done Wicked Game, and no HIM didn't rape it, HIM's version is very good. Rape is what the Yanks done to the english language lol.

fernando
13th February 2006, 18:58
No..no...no...its rape...I mean the song itself added nothing special to it, it was just HIM playing a good song and making it sound shit. A good cover would make it seem as if the band covering it redefined it, just look at Marilyn Manson's version of Sweet Dreams or Jimi Hendrix' version of Along the Watchtower.

And then the video..I dont want to see some ugly Finnish guy's bad teeth and some not that impressive girl on a throne. No I want the truly stunning Helena Christensen in the video like the original:

Some HIM tracks here, sadly all from the (not as good) new album, though I reckon Wings of a Butterfly is the best.

One of my favourite HIM tracks here, I recommend you give it a try (http://youtube.com/w/HIM-RIGHT-HERE-IN-MY-ARMS?v=EnmVr0W_cQ8&search=HIM)

Beautiful video, filmed in Finnish lapland, one of my all time fave HIM tracks, please watch (http://youtube.com/w/him-rox?v=13nC-PoHp5Q&search=HIM)

A beautiful cover of a Ramones track (http://youtube.com/w/HIM-Poison-Heart?v=kWCcT77r8UY&search=HIM)

I've seen HIM twice, and think they're pretty good. I'll be seeing them twice more this April!

And as for HIM standing for His Infernal Majesty - Ville will argue to his death and several pints more that it doesn't stand for anything, it was merely a shortening of the band's name as Finnish people couldn't remember 'His Infernal Majesty.' He doesn't like the name any more, and it was created in the same way that Black Sabbath made their name, who happen to be his idols.

Ville never really takes him self seriously, even with the recent deal with Sire records and international stardom, reaching two Top 10 positions in the UK singles chart (incredible considering the unique sound HIM possess) and MTV appearances.

Also, he's hardly a devout Pagan. He does no form of worship and sees Pagan in the sense of it meaning he does not acknowledge the Judeo-Christian God, he thinks Christianity is a bit of a joke and isn't actually a religious person.

I really like the wings of a butterfly song. But it took a long time for me to warm up to it. It's actually the only HIM song I've heard.

What bugs me is not the music itself but the heartogram they have. bam margera made an ugly shoe with it taking up the side. Aww sick aww. And every other kid at my school has a nasty faded t shirt of theirs. Not cute.

Apocalyptica sucks ass. "Cult" is one of the worst albums ever.

HIM=His Infernal Majesty, not 'imperial'

It was a joke - The initials/acronym, H.I.M was in use before this band came along, H.I.M stood/stands for His Imperial Majesty, a term used to describe/title of Haile Selassie I, former emperor of Ethiopia and 'living-god' of the Rastafari movement - listen to some roots reggae.

I like rather a few Finnish bands myself - namely HIM, Children of Bodom, Charon and The 69 Eyes, though Children of Bodom are by far the greatest, and their drummer Henkka is a truely wonderful human-like specimen and they are superb live. Last time I saw them was on the 26th January at the London Astoria, one of the defining moments of my whole life - I realised that all along I had been wrong about God, he existed under the name 'Alexi Laiho.' Alexi's a great guy too, though at all costs he tried to avoid meeting the fans, which is somewhat shit thing to do, considering they are the reason you're there in the first place.
Still, despite being the greatest band in a musical sense, HIM, or should that be Ville Valo, makes a better interview - more manners, better understanding of English humour and a satirical outlook on both life and his critics.

The 69 Eyes (http://www.69eyes.com) are also good live, and are seemingly the most recent victim of Bam Fucking Margera, the legendary stalker of Finnish bands. He doesn't know it yet, but Lauri from the Rasmus (shit band.) hates his guts.

Edit - just in case anyone is trawling through the archives, I no longer like HIM, let it be known.

Urgh, that picture is so very wrong. It's not the hand in his pants that offends me, but rather the way he is butchering the "horns". Or is he trying to say "love" in sign language?

HIM, well. I bought two of their albums. It's like Coheed in my opinion. You've got some tracks that are just absolutely freakin awesome but then there can really be some boring and almost repative stuff there. Whatever floats your boat kids. But there is no doubt his lyrics are awesome, though confusing. Actually not confusing just the majority of people who like his stuff is confusing. Not bad, an aquired taste. Love em or loath em.

Musics crap, bit too corny for my taste.

But I kinda like V. Valo. Drunken brawling with police and shouthing death threats to filthy rich neighbours is always cool. True finnishness at its best.
