Saddam Warns of World War if U.S. Attacks
Sunday March 16, 2003 10:30 PM
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein warned Sunday that if Iraq is attacked, it will take the war anywhere in the world ``wherever there is sky, land or water.'' President Bush gave the United Nations one more day to find a diplomatic solution to the standoff.
Amid fears that war is imminent, U.N. weapons inspectors flew most of their helicopters out of Iraq; Germany advised its citizens to leave the country immediately and said it would shut down its embassy in Baghdad.
Residents of the Iraqi capital lined up for gasoline and snapped up canned food and bottled water. People mobbed pharmacies to buy antibiotics and tranquilizers. Workers sandbagged fighting positions outside government buildings.

I've just received this comment from a mailing list:
"In another example of his desire to work with the international community, Bush proclaimed a couple hours ago that the United Nations MUST decide today (Monday) at the latest to support his invasion.
However reports say that a version of the bombing I predicted would start last night already started Friday. Bush still hasn't made the announcement he promised in order to allow those that may be able to leave Iraq to leave before he starts whatever he claims he's going to
start.
We still haven't had the UN vote he solemnly promised the American people would be made before he increased the level of hostilities. But apparently he prefers that no one "stands up to be counted". "Don't
count those votes," is beginning to sound familiar.
We understand the opposition to an international criminal court by this man who puts himself above the laws of his own country and above international law.
I ask people to please not underestimate the danger of a powerful group taking advantage of tragic circumstances to attack democracy and put into place a reactionary political agenda in their own country and
declare war against anyone who opposes them throughout the world.
David"

World war or not, where this is taking us can't be good.

"Don't count those votes" has been Bush's theme since he was 'elected' 3 years ago. The day the first acknowledged bomb drops is the last day of this age, or the first day of it. America will either be crushed by internal wieght, or will crush the world.

a world war is no lilely, what is most likely is a global anti-american movement. The only one who is confident about this war is bush and those mindless americans who think war is the option. Bush is dumb, and its proven (he once called the prime minister of spain, president of the spanish republic and the greek grecians), history will prove him wrong, just like fidel castro said in his trail:"La Historia Me Absolvera" and it did...

I agree, this war with iraq won't be WW3...
but if we attack n korea without a lot of backing then that might be the beginning of WW3...
I guess it all depends on how loyal the army is to saddam...if they are loyal and dont surrender then this could be a huge tragedy, if they aren't loyal to him, then this could only take a few weeks....either way though, america won't be looked at in the same way...

A history teacher once told me "The causes of all great things where often ignored until it was to late" what is going on in the back ground?

If there is World War – THIS time – we are truly looking at Armageddon – make no mistake about that.

Armageddon: In Christianity, the place where the final battle will be fought between the forces of "good and evil", mentioned in the Reveletaions (16:16), usually identified with the tableland of Esdraelon, the mountain of Megiddo, the great battlefield of Palestine where Gideon trimuphed over the Medianites and where the fortunes of Hebrew kings and rulers have been decided. Symbolically, it is "a kind of Purgatorial Elysium, in which departed spirits are collected, to await the day of the Final Judgment" (BCW 3:189)
Interesting, isn't it?

I read that the US is waiting for the inspectors of the UN to get out of Iraq so they can attack!!! I guess the only foreign people in Iraq are the inspectors!!!

BTW, let's not forget how WWI began...
"Outbreak of the First World War
World War I broke out by accident. No European government wanted a general war, but most of the European powers perferred to fight rather than back down in the face of diplomatic provocation from their rivals. The spark which provided the excuse to set the armies marching was the assassination of the heir to the Austrian throne in the summer of 1914."
