From what I understand, there have been five epochs; primitive communism, ancient civilisation, feudal society, capitalism (or bourgeoise society) and communism. From each epoch, although there would be a noticable move towards the next as it neared it's end, or even to predict the next epoch earlier on, it would be near impossible to predict the move after the upcoming epoch. For example, in the times of ancient civilisation, whilst it would have seemed to be coming to an end as kingdoms became more dominant and barbarian hordes were becoming powerful, it would not have been possible to predict the move after feudalism to bourgoeisie society.

From each epoch there has generally been a move forwards (in the eyes of a minority at least), as the new epoch is regarded as better than the last. Therefore, whilst communist society is the best move from bourgeoisie society, past evolution suggests that there would be another epoch after that of communism. Wether this would be a fully utopian society, or something completely different, I am not sure, but I am interested in what your views on what it could be, if it would exist at all.
