According to Dr. Chalmers Johnson's book Sorrows of the Empire the U.S. has 725 military bases in foreign countries (this figure Dr. Chalmers got from the Pentagon as the "official figure" but according to him the number of bases is closer to 1,000 because the U.S. also has numerous other secret bases which are not disclosed to the public.
At home the U.S. has over 900 military bases. The existence of so many bases according to Dr. Johnson is that the U.S. does not like to deal with nations diplomatically, or through cultural or commercial interaction but through force or the threat of force.
