This is just one of the many things that are turning me into a bitter 17 year old looking to kill someone....

John Pilger is the man. Peacce, have you read any of his books? I hope to read "The New Rulers of the World" (could be the wrong name, something similar) soon enough. I also got my dad a book Pilger wrote about his various journalistic missions around the globe, but I can't remember its name (either).
What about the documentry he did about Israel a couple of months back? That was excellent, I have a good article about the tribulations he went through trying to get it shown somewhere.
Especially this quote (which happens to be beside me at the moment:
"The boy who commited suicide was a victim as much as my daughter. You have to understand where they come from. Understanding is part of the way to solve the problem"
This man was a member of the Israeli army. His daughter was killed by a suicide bomber. If a man such as that can comprehend the situation the Palestinians are in, why can't these right wing scumbags*?
Okay, this article is ridiculously out of date, but I found it interesting:

*probably because they are right wing scumbags

Cannikickit. Pilger is my favourite journalist. I have not came accross his books. If you dont have a credit card it is quite hard to obtain good books in Glasgow that have a bit of bite, I usually depend on the SWP stall appear at meetings and demos.
Pilger is a gem. My life would be much poorer without him but there are many writers who have integrity.
There is a list (under general observation)of some of the best on this site here. Though some are duds.

Pilger is a fantastic writer, I have 'New Rulers of the World' and I have the video Paying the Price. I may go and see him talk but I don't think I have much chance seeing as it's too far away on a school day.

I'd imagine you'd be able to pick them up easily enough. Glasgow's bigger than Dublin isn't it? I presume you'd find them in the city centre somewhere. Scotland isn't that backward, surely?
That site is pretty good too. I'll have to go there more regularily.

Bookshops in Glasgow are awful. I have had to order a few books that I am sure would be on the shelves in London.

*boom boom* There you go, m'dear, your drums.
Re purchasing books, most of the books of political interest are unavailable in all but the more obscure bookstores, regardless of where you live. Therefore, ordering them's usually the only option. Most companies accept Money Orders which can be purchased from Post Offices. Create a basic order form in Word (there might already be a template available on your comp so have a look, or if you don't find one and you really don't want to have to make one from scratch, you can download free templates off the Microsoft website, then just alter them to look how you want.) Enclose a money order (or a bank cheque in foreign dollars, if you're sending money overseas), and voila.
I've bought heaps of books that way, both here in Australia and through overseas companies - best you stick to purchasing through the publishers, though, for the best deals and guarantee of a product.
Best of all - no credit cards required. Just a little effort and patience.
The best publisher I've found for books of left-wing political interest - including Pilger's books - is Verso (http://www.versobooks.com/). They're absolutely fantastic.

Waterstones in Belfast carries a lot of Pilger and Chomsky books, amongst others like Michael Moore. They don't do anything like Lenin or commie stuff, but you should give it a try at least. And you can always try to order a book in if they haven't got in on the shelf.
[end Waterstones plug]
