View Full Version : The Exploited

I'm looking for information regarding the possibility that The Exploited front man Walter "Wattie" Buchan organised the attack by Nazi's on Dead Kennedy's frontman Jello Biafra (Stage Name) I have been told that Walter organised a group of Nazi's to attack him, and that he has some Nazi symbol tattoo on him, if anyone knows information on this could you please post? :)
EDIT
Information regarding Wattie recieved from Ian, comment posted by a member of Stormfront that he has in an old zine.
"Wattie denies in the interview that he is sympathetic to the national front, but he does admit to hating pakistanians, even going so far as to compare them to mexicans in america!! He also admits to having a nazi battle flag hanging on his living room wall. Wattie also has a swastika tattooed on his left arm."
EDIT
Information regarding Wattie taken from translated version of
www.libreopinion.com%2Fmembers%2Fdecibelios%2FTheK riminaleExploitedKlasse.htm
"One says that the song of the Dead Kennedys "Nazi Punks fuck off" (Punks Nazi, iros to the excrement) of the disc ' In God we trust, INC. ', was done thinking about The Exploited, and by that Wattie reason always it has hated to Jelllo Biafra, in addition to being bisexual."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"On the other hand The Exploited dedicated to the Dead Kennedys the song to them "Fuck The the USA", and to Jello Biafra the song ' I Hate Yoú, which can be found in the disc ' Live AT The White Housé and in ' Apocalypse ' 77 ' among others. In a recording in direct of this song it is possible to be listened to say to Wattie Buchan when beginning: "This song this dedicated to Jello Biafra so that he is a jodido fag. I am called ' hated "( " This to you song is dedicated to Yello Biafra because hés to fucking faggot. It's called I hate fucking you ".)"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Comments such as: "Jewish bastard" are also made by Walter "Wattie" Buchan in this interview
NOTE
In the photograph that Ian posted, see the three skinheads in the background saluting Hitler, this shows that Wattie socialised with them.
EDIT
Wattie also commented
"One says that Wattie before touching with The Exploited declared that it hated the immigrants who acudian to Scotland, his loved earth. Often the Exploited has been accused to be a facist band, and in one of those occasions a recording appeared where Wattie stated that "hated to black, Philippine, Latin and Arabs".

I've heard of that stuff too. There was a thread here a while ago about this same issue. celtopunk or someone gave a link to some Spanish site or something that had info on it.
I'm not sure if I believe it, as some of the proof seems questionable or just not substantial enough, but I do honestly think the Exploited are poser racist so-called "punks".
Fuck 'em.

That site I got the information off was Spanish, I used Google.co.nz language techniques to translate it into a much easier to read English version, but as Cthenthar said "Fuck 'em" it's very appropriate for them, i'm going to start deleting my tracks by them.

Hate to say it but the Casualties suck as well, if nto more than the exploited, at least some thought went into the exploited's lyrics, most of the casualties seem like they are written by a 9 year old

I'll never understand your love of such a lame band. Check the lyrics to "Scaling the Derry Wall" again. Wattie's a right wing asshole, he's anti-govt and shit because the govt. isn't right wing enough for him. Don't confuse that with being left wing.
If you have ever heard or seen Henry Rollins speak, he's mentioned being spit on by Exploited fans, who seemed to like giving nazi salutes (they shared a bill or a few dates when Black Falg first went to england).

I only had three songs, F*** The USA, Army Life, and Sid Vicious Was Innocent, the last song's lyrics sound like they were written by a 9 year old, The Casualties are a lot better, the song F*** The USA was written by Wattie about Jello from the Dead Kennedys, he had never even met him but hated him, possibly there song Nazi Punks #### Off was taken badly

whenever i take a bus out to carrick (pittsburgh's asshole), i always see one or two "exploited punks" no more than 16 y/o on the bus with their exploited and/or aus rotten patches and studded jackets. sometimes i tell them as i walk by "wattie's a nazi, listen to some dead boys or something please." usually they don't defend it, snort, and look away. i love riding the bus. if i'm with a friend whenever mormons get on the bus, i ask loudly if s/he thinks they fuck on the first date. they make great faces. how punk rock.

The Casualties are nice guys, but they try way too hard, no streetpunks I know put that much work into their hair. As for the Exploited, whatever they're not really important, at least they're better than Crass and as for the salutes a lot of skins from back in the day used to throw them up as a joke because they said it was the only way to get their picture in the paper.

Alot of old punk bands used to use nazi symbolisim to get a rise out of people. Sid from the sex pistols used to wear a swazi shirt all the time. The New York dolls also used it.

Better than Crass? Musically perhaps (which isn't too difficult) but certainly not lyrically. I'll take bad hippie anarchist punk over bad right wing asshole punk anyday though.

Its not Crass' message I was criticizing, but if you're going to be a band who makes music you should at least try harder than that, I wanted to like crass, but it just didn't work out. Now Conflict, there's a band that's clearly better than the Exploited.

Just one thing: I watched the doco "Punk: Attitude" recently and heard Jello Biafra talk about the "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" song. He said it was it reference to punks who were angry for no reason, aggressive for it's own sake (meaning the new hardcore scene).
Does this mean it has no relation to the Exploited? I dunno...

As far as the song being specifically about the Exploited, probably not. I think it is more a case of if the shoe fits...

Aren't you the guy who found all this info about the Jello vs. Wattie beef in the first place? If so, what is your take on the whole situation? If it exists? At the very least, it does appear that Wattie hates Jello. But why?

Are you sure about The New York Dolls?
I know that when Malcolm McClaren was their manager he made them dress up in red leather and perform in front of the hammer and sickle symbol.

I presume you were talking about me is that correct?
Beef? Let's not use that term.
Read the lyrics to "Nazi Punks Fuck Off", it is quite plain what he was talking about. The Exploited and their fans aren't the only ones who fit the bill. There is an Exploited album, a live one where Wattie spends quite a bit of time taking shots at Jello calling him a fag and other things, that's a fact. I also think that Jello has other things on his mind other than does Wattie like him or not. Wattie probably took the song "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" to heart because as I said before, the shoe fits, but I don't think the song was written specifically about the Exploited and/or their fans. To boil it down to the simplest possible terms (which I really don't like to do):
Jello/Dead Kennedys (with Jello) = great
Wattie/Exploited = shit
Over and out.

As an old-timey punk who listened mucho to both bands back then:
Wattie's anti-Jello stuff started popping up on the "Live at the Whitehouse [sic]" live album of 1987. It was always my understanding that it was his response to Jello's ongoing criticism of right-wing/racist hardcore punk in general and the New York scene in particular. It wasn't just "Nazi Punks Fuck Off," but also very detailed, direct criticism as in "Chickenshit Conformist" (critiques of hardcore, metal and crossover) which was recorded the year before "Whitehouse." And Jello being Jello, he made those criticisms frequently on tour, named names, etc. I never heard of and don't recall Jello ever mentioning the Exploited in particular, but they certainly fit the bill in lots of ways.
Wattie is essentially a stupid lout--which is to say he's an actual blue-collar thug, unlike the vast majority of punks who pretend to be/wish they were. I don't excuse him, but I think that does explain him. He's not ideological (at least, there's no coherent Exploited ideology), just a postmodern version of a drunken townie. The credits to the Exploited's "War Now" 12-inch insult a "Jew bastard doctor in New York," and they have infamous sexist and homophobic lyrics ("Fuck a Mod," "Porno Slut"). Speaks for itself--and Wattie clearly hasn't gotten any smarter over the decades.
