BNP leader Nick Griffin walked free from court after he was cleared of two race hate charges and the jury failed to reach verdicts on two others.
Griffin was charged in relation to a series of speeches he made in West Yorkshire which were filmed as part of a BBC undercover documentary.

His co-defendant, Mark Collett, was also cleared of four similar charges and the jury failed to reach verdicts on a further four counts in his case.

The judge at Leeds Crown Court then discharged the jury after hearing they had got as far as they could with their deliberations.

A Crown Prosecution Service decision on whether to press for a retrial on the undecided charges is expected within the next few days.

Griffin said outside the court: "If the Crown Prosecution Service feel they must continue to persecute us for speaking the truth we will see them in court."

After the jury was discharged, Griffin appeared in one of the windows of the courtroom and was cheered by supporters gathered outside, many of whom were carrying union flags.

A group of BNP opponents had also gathered outside the court.

Anti-BNP demonstrators shouted "scum" as Griffin and his team emerged from the court building.

Griffin told waiting reporters: "I was speaking the truth to an audience of decent working people in West Yorkshire who in some cases are facing terrible problems, including the grooming of their children by paedophiles."

From BBC News....

BNP duo to face race hate retrial
BNP leader Nick Griffin will face a retrial on two race hate charges after being cleared by a jury at Leeds Crown Court of two other charges.

Party activist Mark Collett, who was acquitted of four similar charges, will also stand trial again on a further four race hate charges.

Mr Griffin, 44, and Mr Collett, 24, had denied using words intended to stir up hatred in West Yorkshire in 2004.

The jury was sent home after failing to reach verdicts on all of the charges.

The Crown Prosecution Service later said it would proceed with a retrial over the outstanding charges.

After the end of two-week trial, Mr Griffin was met by supporters and said the outcome was a "tremendous victory for freedom".

Their six speeches were filmed by an undercover BBC journalist for a documentary on the BNP.

Mr Griffin said the verdicts were a "fantastic day for the people of this country".

He said: "This evening, millions of people in Britain will be holding their heads a little higher and walking a little taller.

"If the CPS feel they must continue to persecute us simply for telling the truth then we will see them in court."

Legitimate dialogue

Mr Griffin, of Llanerfyl, Powys, had denied two charges of using words or behaviour intended to stir up racial hatred and two alternative charges of using words or behaviour likely to stir up racial hatred.

He was acquitted of one of each charge in relation to one speech, but the jury failed to reach a verdict in respect to a second speech in which he called Islam a "wicked vicious faith".

Mr Collett, of Rothley, Leicestershire, denied four charges of using words or behaviour intended to stir up racial hatred and four of using words or behaviour likely to stir up racial hatred.

He was acquitted of four charges, two of each, in relation to two speeches made at The Royal pub in Pudsey and the Falconer's Rest pub in Morley, in which he described asylum seekers as "a little bit like cockroaches".

The jury failed to reach a verdict over two other speeches, in one of which Mr Collett said "let's show these ethnics the door in 2004".

During the two-week trial, the defendants told the jury they were engaging in legitimate political dialogue about issues which concern ordinary working people.

THAT ARROGANT MOTHER-FUCKER!!! I swear, at times like this I lose all faith in my arguments for a peaceful revolution and just want to push that racist bastard's teeth through his skull  And as for this piece of fucking scare-mongering:

West Yorkshire who in some cases are facing terrible problems, including the grooming of their children by paedophiles

I don't doubt that the problems of the West Yorkshire people, and believe me I think the same fates that await this fucker should be visited upon paedophiles, but his he actually saying that the Muslim people, as a whole, are responsible for all of these hateful crimes? Motherfucker... there are not vehement enough imprecations to describe the revulsion I feel for that man and his ignorant racist followers.

What is worse is that those bastards have made it a moral crime to fly the Union flag. Granted, what it stood for used to include some of what these fuckwits believe in, but I used to be able to look at the flag with pride; now if I had it flying in my front garden (as I know one WWII veteran does) I would be seen to support these bastards.

Gah!! I'm off to try and cleanse myself of this fucking anger, I wonder where the nearest BNP meeting hall is

I think its a sad day for the BNP when they're leader cant even be tred as racist, he's clearly failed as a facist, what a pathetic excuse for a white nationalist.

In all seriousness I dont know if this is good or bad, at least the state hasnt turned him into some kinda of nazi martyr.

this is how they reported their "victory" (which of course could be short lived if a retrial takes place)

edit: i can't find anything about this "Christian Council of Britain" (a group that, according to the above link, has given aid to the BNP).
