Finally someone fights back against political correctness, but it has failed.

The Muslims complaints about the cartoon that the Danish and subsequent European newspapers printed was fair enough. Our free press isn't intended to please everyone. But why have governments been backing down to their protests?

Jacques Lefranc was the editor of the Frecnh daily France Soir who has been sacked by the owner of the paper, incidentally a Frecnh-Egyptian, who said he had made the decision as a, "powerful sign of respect for the intimate beliefs and convictions of every individual"

This is crazy. Even for Muslims on this community, surely you agree? I see no problem with Muslims being angry about it, but for everyone to back down so whimpishly is absurd. Some people don't agree with the British paper "The Sun"'s page 3 feature. Nobody changes that. People disagree with the way tabloids invade privacy. Nobody changes that. I disagree with nearly everything the Daily Telegraph prints, but I would never support a move to ban it. I would actively oppose such an idea.

I know this is a big story which has been regurgitated over and over, but I haven't noticed it on any of the forums so decided to see what people thought. I'd especially like to hear the views of Muslims whose possible anger I would understand, but would fully expect anyone on this board to support a free press.

I was deeply saddened over this story. Why should people not be allowed to publish satirical cartoons of Muhammed? People do ones of christianity all the time. What is happening to freedom of expression?

Exactly. I just heard one member of the British Muslim Council on TV saying something like, "nobody insults Jesus, why should they insult Muhammed"

How untrue is that? Jesus and the Christian religion as a whole is always called into question i.e. it's legitimacy, factual content etc.

Not really, I don't remember someone on tv or anywhere severely criticizing Christianity or let alone making fun of Jesus in a drawing here in the U.S. Can you imagine someone doing that in the U.S? I can't. I remember the Jesus painting in New York City not too long ago that caused so much controversy, it was painted in elephant feces but apparently in the artists' country that is something of respect. Well just for that their was a uproar in New York! One of the most liberal states in the country. People tend to stay away from even talking about Jesus or Christianity because of the storm it can cause.

But Islam, yeah that's the religion that's getting all the bashing. So many instances of bashing from the press in Sweden attacking muslims as a whole for their rape problem to here in the U.S or UK for terrorism. Too many instances to name.

Political correctness is a term invented by angry whites, mad that they can't say racial slurs on television anymore.

I think some of you need to rethink this.

Muslims in France are obviously oppressed....regardless of how JESUS is viewed, why should we SUPPORT the group that is OPPRESSING the other one?

I'm glad the bastard got fired.
