Stop the War Against Iran Before It Starts!

Every day new stories in the media add to an increasingly horrifying trend preparing world opinion for a military onslaught against Iran. The propaganda war against Iran ”based on blatant untruths, half-truths, double standards and distortions” acts as a basis to confuse the public and intimidate potential voices of opposition against a new war in the Middle East. In the absence of strong opposition to their threats against Iran, the governments of the US and Israel speak openly of military strikes, and the Pentagon is even reported to be considering the pre-emptive use of tactical nuclear weapons against Iran.

The increasing belligerence of the governments of the US and Israel is based on the central charge that Iran is developing a covert nuclear weapons program. This is despite the fact that in the past two years, Iran has allowed intrusive inspections and safeguards beyond what is required by compliance with the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Numerous snap inspections have failed to provide any shred of evidence that Iran has a nuclear weapons program. Yet, in the meeting of the Governing Board of the International Atomic Energy (IAEA) on 24th September 2005, under massive US government pressure, Iran was condemned by a majority vote for non-compliance with NPT. The US government is now determined to bring its European allies on board for referral of Iran to the UN Security Council for imposition of sanctions, which as in the case of Iraq, can be the prelude to a military strike by the governments of US or Israel against Iran.

The double standards being applied in the present situation could not be more appalling. As a signatory to the NPT, the US government has itself consistently failed to abide by its commitments for nuclear disarmament and has in fact developed new generations of nuclear weapons, refusing NPT inspections. In the Iraq war, the US government ”the only state which has already used the nuclear bomb” has employed depleted uranium, cluster bombs and white phosphorous against civilians, all in violation of international law. For its part, the government of Israel has refused to sign the NPT and, with the support of the US and European governments, has covertly developed a nuclear weapons program producing hundreds of nuclear warheads. The government of Israel has also consistently refused to allow IAEA inspections of its nuclear plants.

Oppose Iran's referral to the UN Security Council!
- Oppose any attack on Iran and Syria!
- Oppose a new war in the Middle East!

Yes!
As soon as our good buddy W catches wind of any intelligence(truthful or not) pointing toward Iranian nuclear power, we'll have a war on our hands. It's gonna suck.

I don't really think that the US has the capacity to atack Iran alone at this point. The military is bogged down in Iraq and it would at least require full mobilization of reserves in order to fill a quota for troop strength. If another nation such as Israel fully mobilizes against Iran, then it might be possible but Israel doesn't have that kind of military capability.

I definitely support your call for peace in the Middle East though Bush will gain little support for an Iran invasion. I think that the UN is most likely to impose some sanctions on Iran similar to what occured to its neigbor after the First Gulf War.

I hate the prospect of another war in the gulf but i do have 5 bucks rideing on Bush to stick his ugly in before the end of his term. I think it is unavoidable and all we can do is brase ourselves the invasion will probably be next spring/summer

The more wars, the further out the empire is spread and the more vulnerable it becomes to collapse or attack. I oppose the war, but if they're stupid enough to try it, well...

Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela have large nationalized oil companies that the big four Anglo-American oil companies cannot buy. Iraq formerly had one. The richest families in those countries are wannabe Rockefellers. They are an ongoing threat to the wealth and power of the actual Rockefeller family (and other big capitalists). United States and Britain will invade these countries. There is no way to "stop the war before it starts" unless you are willing to overthrow capitalism as a whole with communist revolution.

I'd support the Liberation of Iran, but it won't happen. USA isn't that stupid.

Liberation of Iran wont happen through a U.S. invasion. Plus, Iran is already preparing for and invasion and will meet the U.S. with extreme force. I doubt that Bush and co. will be stupid enough to invade a country that has been preparinmg for an invasion for a while. Plus, with the way that the Iraqi insurgency has hurt the U.S. military, and with Iraq so close to Iran, there will defantely be some Iranians who are veterans of the Iraqi insurgency who will come home and fight the Americans with the same tactics they have used fairly effectively in Iraq.
