I consider myself to be a modern day philosopher. I have my own version of socialism that I like to call social unionism. It can best be outlined in ten points.
1. Collective ownership of resources
A good is the thing you own, as it was created by man, but you do not own the things it was made of. Man does not own the land as one, he cannot and should not be able to say that it is he who owns a resource as he did not create it. The answer to this is the nationalization of all natural resources to be owned at least in share by the citizens. This way, none can say, "The resources are mine." Instead, he can say, "The good is mine."
2. Conserving social norms
Our society has come under attack from several things that deviate from social norms. When I say this I am mostly referring to moral relativism. It is my belief that regardless of whether or not you believe in a god, morals are absolute and unversal values. It is our duty as a society to conserve social norms, social values, and to steer those who do not on the right path.
3. Individuals and society
Individual does exist, but so does society. The individual must recognize his responsibilty to himself, and to society. The individual must recognize that as part of society, it is partly his duty to keep society afloat by his own personal contribution. When the organism dies, every individual in it dies as well.
4. Physical property
The idea that a file or a recording etc. is private property is bunk. These things are not physical items, therefore in the natural law there is not intellectual property. There is physical property, and that is what is considered by all to be a physical object. This is for use and ownership by the individual. This is the rightful duty of private property. When it comes down to intellectual property, the intellectual world must be realized not to be a business. Sure, the book may be property, but the idea is not.
5. A people's army
We need to create rather than the current military system we have now, a true people's army. This is an army not of average citizens each armed with their own assault weapon for defense of the nation. It is an army of the proletariat rather than the bourgeoise. A people's army also means a key point, if the individual thinks the war is unjust, it is not his obligation to fight in it.
6. Democracy on all fronts
Democracy must be exercised on all fronts. The type of democracy I speak of means majority rule, minority rights, as our system was at least founded to be. Not only though, must it be present in government, it must be present in all aspects of society. It is a democratic government's duty to ensure democracy in schools, workplaces, society, and other places like it.
7. Authority is bunk
The perception that any one man can hold authority over anything is bunk. Authority can be defined as when man rules over something seemingly for its good or the good of society, but in reality it turns out to be for his own good. We need people to enforce the moral law, but we do not need people to enforce their own law. We need people in power but they need to be leaders and servants, not people who say, "Do," and we obey.
8. The equality plane
We need to put all people on an equality plane. That is why we need to do all we can to enforce equal rights and try to stray as far away from the idea of individual rights as possible. The reason for this is that when you set up special rights for each individual based on their current standing, you set up the road to dictatorship. While this may still happen, it must be kept to a bare minimum. We must also do our part to end segregation. The fact that certain units are segregated by sex, even for some good sake, is still segregation and must be stopped. The sense that ages must be segregated is wrong and must be stopped. All people have enough angst to be equal.
9. Societies within society
We must recognize the idea of societies within society. These can be qualified as families, workplaces, schools, churches, or anything like that. As there are certain rules and morals to govern the whole society, there must also be to govern these branches. We must do all we can to ensure society is cohesive in all its forms.
10. For the motherland!
Internationalism simply does not work in an age like ours. It is for this reason that we should not be ashamed of our country. We can be ashamed of our government, and in the current affairs we should, but if we are American we should never be ashamed. Now, we must be careful that nationalism only extends to nations and not races, as this breeds a dangerous fuel. Just the same, we must remain one sovereign nation for the ideal society to work.
