In short, not many. The best advice I can give would be to start your own. Are you secondry school or uni?

The current student unions that I have dealt with tend to be O.K. for bus passes and the like, but have become little more than servants for highstreet chain stores. It might be different near you, but I would not advise using the discounts.

I'm finding the same thing Global Justice - after having gone over the list of organisations in this thread (http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php?showtopic=31615) I've yet to find one that fits my own ideology. When I go off to University at the end of this year I'm hoping to connect with other like-minded people (going to Kent at Canterbury University, in case anyone lives nearby ;)) and maybe try a bit of awareness-raising there.

I've given up on the people in my college (er, equates to upper high school in America I think - 17-18yr olds) as they are either right-wingers who support UKIP *spits* or the BNP *spits again, but this time rubs a BNP member's face in it*; already leftists; or generally racsist, homophobic, intellectually-vacuous morons. I find it hard to understand these people, so educating them in the ways of Marx etc. are beyond my meagre abilities :( .

There's the Revolutionary Communist Group and FRFI (Fight Racism Fight Imperialism) that i've recently been doing things with like street stalls about Cuba. Their website is: http://www.rcgfrfi.easynet.co.uk/

I'm there already, and I have to say, it's not much better. There's the RESPECT society, which is obviously far from ideal and you have to pay for it, apart from that there's not much going on as far as I can see.

im a student in the UK and participate in politics and economics. I have converted many of my classmates to see the major flaws of capitalism that the teachers fail to mention (the flaws arent really in the syllabus though you can see some in the form of market failure). My teachers are quite left wing too so it helps.

Im hoping that there are people like me all over the place preventing the next generation of ignorant fascists (we insult one guy continually for supporting the BNP, even the teacher laughs at him). Perhjaps if our students can see thew alternative then one day we will have a population of well educated, well rounded citizens with open minds to help build an anti capitalist state.

Good luck to all of you who advocate the left. You are advocates of a better society that will one day come into being.

There's a few...

Socialist Workers Student Society: (http://www.swp.org.uk/swss/) Student and young persons wing of the Socialist Workers party.

International Socialist Resistance: (http://www.anticapitalism.org.uk/) Youth wing of the Socialist Party

Revolution: (http://www.worldrevolution.info/) Youth wing of Workers Power

Young Communist League: (http://www.communist-party.org.uk/index.php) Youth wing of the Communist Party of Britain

There are no specific anarchist youth organisations. There was the anarchist youth network, but that doesn't exist anymore. Most anarchist groups try not to make the distinction. I have never understood why groups need to divide based on age.

There are sometimes anarchist societies or groups at universities, otherwise you can just make your own group whereever you are. Most anarchist organsiations will support what you do if you need help or advice.

The most recent artilce from their news page:-

The Mail on Sunday (5th Feb 2006) ran an article headed “Crisis as students boycott blood donor sessions in protest over ban on gays”.

The article attempts to link low levels of blood donations with a student led campaign highlighting the current National Blood Service (NBS) policy of not allowing any gay or bisexual men to donate blood.

Through misquoting the NUS Womens-Place LGBT Officer Kat Louis and referring to an untraceable instance of students removing advertisements for the blood donation centres, the article wrongly implies that NUS and the student campaigns are somehow at the centre of the shortage of donors.

Tells me all I need to know about this organisation - rather than protesting their innocence, they SHOULD be at the centre of this, mobilising student support! I believe you're right Alex, this is a useless union - unfortunately, it's also the most popular (at least, it has the most members nationally - I think).
