I understand that most/some of you are teenagers. You will then understand that your "Governments" class should be called "Government" class. I have taken quite a few general moderate level Government system classes in both High School and College. In both classes they have taught the same bullshit about how Capitalism is the best system out there, and that it never screws up... I can only bring up Rwanda so many darn times.
The only mention of Socialism, or Communism I have heard in any classes was in Economics... where the teacher didn't say ANYTHING about it, nor did he even acknowledge it... like it just wasn't there. Have any of you had the same situation? Any of you have to educated your own damn teachers?

Anything I know about socialism and the whole left was never taught to me in schools. Schools don't really teach that much about the "left" probably because most education is influenced by corporations and their funds.
And when they do teach anything about the "left" it is always something bad and misinformation. Hardly anything positive or giving the "left" any merit.

I am a Freshman in high school and we have World Geography. The teacher is a idiot who constanly tries to prove me wrong. In the benging of are class me and him had a discusion and he seemed pretty cool but once I got into the flaws with capitalism he is now being a dick to me. We had a standard about Russia. And I told everyone in the class that this book is filled with lies and the book should not be followed Than I said how the USSR wasnt communist and then he kicked me out of the class. I hate the american school system they dont teach the accurate un bias stuff.

I got a 4 (out of five) in history, and a 3 in society and religion, even though I towards the end almost never attended the classes..
All because the teacher was so "in awe" for my knowledge of the issues. She respected it even though we didn't agree on anything.. We had fierce debates over capitalism and communism, she being a rightwinger and me an annoing "smart kid" raised in a communist home.
I forced her for instance to stop calling the finnish civil war (fought 1918 between the "Whites" and the "Reds") "the liberty war", which is the rightist term for it.
She wouldn't go as far as to call it "the War Between the Classes" though, but we agreed on the term "Civil War" in the end. :)
The public school system in capitalist countries is customed to make good wageslaves. The teachers would never bring these things up if not forced, I'm sure they are forbidden to actually.
Private schools, on the other hand, don't do it for other reasons.
They are educating the next generation of rulers.
EDIT: the english translation of the rightist term for the war seems to be "The War of Independence". Whatever, bullshit anyway.

Here's some I found in a hurry. Seems quite "neutral".. don't take it literally though.
I could perhaps make a thread about the subject in "history" in the future.
One day the bourgeoisie of Finland will pay for the atrocities of their fathers..
If you can find a copy of the novel "Täällä Pohjantähden Alla" (Here, under the North Star?) by Väinö Linna in english, read it! It's a great description of the feelings of the people of Finland in that time.
The book has been translated to swedish atleast, i'm not sure about english. It has
also been filmatized.

I don't see why the American schools are able to get off on only reporting one side of the issue. It seems like everyone has to learn how Capitalism "works" (or makes others work anyway) but you have to study extra harder to learn anything else...

The school system does not encourage learning it encourages obedience. If you don't conform you fail.

its similer in Australia you learn about the miners rebellion at the Eurka Stockade and the Shearers strike of the 1890's that lead to the creation of the Labor party, but bugger all on anything else.

yeah, well im a sophomore. In my World History class, my teacher constantly refers to capitalism, indirectly , but he does. He talks about the flaws alot for example he'll say that it is very easy to fall between the cracks and become poor in that system. He does refer to Cuba, N Korea, etc. as communism and makes us use that text book that defines communism as " authoritarian socialism". That text book is so fucked up. I wish we had an unbiased book that said the truth.... well i cant wait till the revolution
