Christian movie is No. 8 on opening weekend. More than industry expected, but less than producer hoped.

"End of the Spear," considered a test of the depth of the Christian market for movies that "The Passion of the Christ" unearthed two years ago, was in the box-office top 10 for its opening weekend, but fell far short of its producer's goal.

Green, who says he hopes to "change the culture" through films rooted in Christian values, said his movie's debut "was better than the industry expected, less than we hoped we'd do."

With luck it will tank in its second week. :D

I'm assuming that the producer and director are both devout christians? People are bored of religion. They only see these films because they are curious about the origins/stories contained within the bullshit they have been indoctrinated with since they were children.

I'm sure that on camera each would profess his undying love and support for "the almighty".

However once the wife is sent shopping on 5th ave. and the cameras are shut down, the only prayers for "the almighty" are for the whores to be Japanese and the blow to be better than last time.

It's a huge mistake on behalf of the film industry to think that the number of viewers a religious film gets is representative of religion's popularity.
Like Commiecrusader said, a number of viewers, often agnostic, are merely curious to learn about religion. That is why so many people bought the Da Vinci Code (and will go to see it in the cinema) and why so many people watched The Passion Of The Christ. Religion is fading, and movies aren't gonna save it.
I've seen many movies, I don't neccesarily believe them. I'm not terrified of going to Japan in case a giant dinosaur-like beast attacks me, or I'm fatally electrocuted by a passing Pikachu.
I think we ought to just make the world a hospice for religion, just let it die in peace, there's no reviving it now.
