I am a Chilean borned, Chilean raised and Chilean Opressed teen (for those you who dont know what Chile is look it up).
From August of 1997 the Chrysler Corporation has been introducing luxury vehicules (luxurious for Chile such as Cherokee and Caravan) with a fony price. In Chile the Goverment charges cars with a luxury tax, for cars over 14,000 the State charges an 85% tax for every dollar over that price, well, the company was introducing cars with an original value of 25,000 for 18,000, hence, paying less to the Chilean State, but they sold it here for 25,000.
In 2001 the Chilean police arrested a car dealer for evaiding taxes, big surprise when this guy told them what the corporation was doing all this time. The sum came to 26 million dollars and the police sued Chrylser Corporation. The first defence was to deny all the charges but the evidence was too strong so they moved to plan B:Concilation. The Chrysler Corporation admitted they're mistake and met with the custom director 'Cristian Palmas', two meetting occured during september and october of 2001 but there was no record of that meeting and the corporation told the judge it never occured, then the worst part came.
The Goverment was sueing when the Corporation ,who's profits equals to the Chilean PIB, threathend the Goverment with using their influences to stop the Free Trading Treaty wich the Chilean Goverment has fought for a decade trying to persuade the USA to accept and in this lat time was working.
Various senators and even Colin Powell started calling the president and ministers to demand a seize to the persecution of the company, otherwise, this epic step for the Chilean Economy would be turned down by the president.
In consequence the director of customes was fired and the 26 million demand was dropped to 2 million
This is a clear sign of the US imperialism working in the small south american countries just like they did in 1973 to kill Salvador Allende and put that Evil General Pinochet and kill thousand of innocent people.
