It had to be about 200 words unfortunatley. I would have liked to expanded and analyzed further.
A comerade in Lanarkshire recently noticed that on school buses, rented out by the school from a private company there were recruitment posters for the MOD.
This is a shocking but not altogether unsurprising discovery. As the imperialist ventures of the ruling class go on the army is struggling to find more recruits to go and die in a war for oil and sphere of influence abroad that is costing huge amount of lives of both working Iraqi people and those people in the rank and file of the
armed forces. Again usually working class people.
As this shows, the MOD is getting desperate, but is still going for the usual target of a working class area. Since people in these areas suffer from a lack of opportunity that may be available elsewhere most of the MODs recruitment goes into these areas.
Of course these posters will never present an honest analogy of army life; people losing limbs, under fire and killing people in imperialist conflicts in foreign lands. They instead prefer to show an image of army life that involves training, skiing in Norway, diving in Cyprus. No real chance of getting hurt.
As the rulings class’ hunger for more soldiers to throw into the meat grinder rises we must be prepared to oppose and counter them at every opportunity.
