[angry rant mode] Today a group of around 30-40 students, including myself, was taken into the large group instruction room in my school. 4 teachers (ex-military) and one ex-military medic were waiting for us. They said that it was important that we talk about current events, specifically about the impending war with Iraq.
3 of the teachers and the medic went on an extreme right-wing rant that was pro-Bush, pro-war, and pro-Israel. They said that Iraq had Scud missiles, only manufactured by "Eastern Nations" (said with extreme disgust in his voice).
Then I realized that almost every student in the room was anti-war. It seemed that the school had rounded up the leftist kids and attempted to "re-educate" us. One of the teachers was anti-war. He is a history teacher, and was a Russian linguist in the Army for 4 years. He said that his military experience sucked and didn't advise us to follow the route he had taken. He also told us to remember that "when you sign on that line, you are telling them you are willing to go kill other human beings." He was clearly not happy with Bush's new USA. This made the 4 other teachers go ballistic. They yelled back and forth for awhile and the leftist teacher eventually shut up, probably sick of being yelled at. Then they told us that the government has full access to our school records and schoolwork, and insinuated that we shouldn't be defying our government, and that it would bring dire concequences. Then they told us how much money a tomahawk missile costs, which made me sick to my stomach. That money could be used for much better causes. Someone tried to say that, but the teacher said that "these older missiles are like old sour cream in the refrigerator. we need to use them before they spoil. Iraq is the place to use them." That pissed me off as well.
We were then led away to our next class.
The scariest part is, their re-education seemed to work on most kids. only about three other students besides myself hadn't converted. One of the leftist kids said "I need to put my fist through a Republican". I got a laugh out of that, but all in all, it was a very depressing thing to sit through. [/angry rant mode]

Holy crap! This sounds very much like an Orwellian vision of a totalitarianist hell. Re-education, rounding up leftist, nude conspiracies! That is one fucked up school.
You have the backing of happyguy if you choose to protest.

Jeezus. I am just praying that England never reaches a state where it is possible to do that. At least my headmaster is a leftist so i reckon i should be pretty safe.

How the fuck can any school condone that?

I don't know comrade...but how can anyone condone a system in which people starve to death and where people don't have homes...this is a sick society....

My school is so plastered with anti-war posters and publically speaking radicals that they wouldn't dare to do something like that. I would have screamed in all their faces about their lack of ethics and ranted for the entire session about Bush's blatant imperialism. We have a far stronger argument than 'they' do. The Bushist excuse for this war mongering is flimsy and transparent, and you should have taken the oppurtunity to show them that.

You and all of the students, including myself, must stand up against this kind of manifestation. These people best arm is scaring you, if they make you think that you cant speak up then the war is already lost.

But the thing is you must speak up, no one can shut you up, you must revolt and tell other kids to revolt too regadless of what that sick teacher tells you about that pshyco Bush.

Revolution starts at home and i am already starting mine, united we stand against opression, our voices will never seize as long as the rich steps on the poor to get more money

SPEAK UP !!

I suggest you put that revolutionary fervour to use outside of internet message boards. This commnity is particularily notorious for inactive but radical-speaking folks without any motivation at all. GIT! GIT!

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teacher, leave them kids alone

All in all, you're just another brick in the wall

That's crazy KG. See if you can arrange a similar but anti-war assembly at your school. Tell them that it is important for both sides to be heard. If they ignore you, bring it before the superintendant and the school-board. You should be able to get something good done that way.

The whole education system in the U$ is bullshit anyways....half of what we learn in history class is a bunch of fucking lies and everything always sides with the american govt....schools really are just brainwash factories for the children....we must find a way to counter this bullshit...

If you read " A Peoples History of the United States" by Howard Zinn, you will see that schools were designed to be militaristic anyway. My suggestion is that you talk to an ACLU lawyer and find out if the small group of you singled out for this "re-education" is legal in a public school. This is the only thing pricks like this fear is confrontation and media attention. Get it out there. Good luck with these Fascist pigs.

They kinda tried to do that here in detention for all the March 15 protesters, but we kinda shut them down.
