Against the anticommunist draft resolution at the PACE

We the undersigned, independently of our views on the ex-socialist countries, appeal to the members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to firmly reject the draft resolution Need for international condemnation of crimes of totalitarian communist regimes.
Comrades, we cannot let this happen! Yet again us communists/marxists are being labeled criminals and fascist, while, as we all know, only we have the right solution! Do not let it come this far!

On Wednesday, the 25th of January 2006, a draft resolution aimed at installing a European-style McCarthyism was submitted to the vote of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. (You can click on Background information and http://assembly.coe.int/Mainf.asp?link=/Do.../Eres1481.htm.) (http://assembly.coe.int/Mainf.asp?link=/Documents/AdoptedText/ta06/Eres1481.htm.))

The PACE adopted the resolution by 99 votes (out of a total of 317 titular members) against 42 with 12 abstentions.

The accompanying recommendations requesting the governments of Europe to take follow-up measures did not however receive the necessary two-thirds majority of votes (cf. http://assembly.coe.int/ASP/Press/StopPres....asp?CPID=1728) (http://assembly.coe.int/ASP/Press/StopPressView.asp?CPID=1728)). That was made possible in particular by our protests to the members of the PACE. The protest motion below was drafted for wide circulation and signing.

A first series of 3901 signatures gathered on this site was delivered to the President of the PACE Mr Ren van der Linden, following a protest demonstration on Tuesday 24 January in Strasbourg. Different delegations from several European countries also handed over declarations, resolutions and motions with thousands of signatures.

The campaign goes on to demand the withdrawal of this resolution.

Please continue marking your opposition to the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe by filling in the form below. Thank you!
