arafat has declared that Abu Mazen, a member of the PLO, will be appointed as Prime Minister of the palestinian national authority. Abu Mazen said that he will only accept the position after he has found out exactly what his power will be.
i think this is one step forward for the palestinians. Abu Mazen has always condemned all sorts of violence committed by both israel and the palestinians. he is a vigorous supporter of the peace process. the problem is that he doesn't have much power among the palestinian people. i hope that as PM he will gain that power. maybe then, the israelis will be wise enough to see that they are facing now a true peaceful leader, and will be quick to remove general Sharon from his office in jerusalem.
