View Full Version : Does anyone want me to type out this book?

I got the book "Finance Capital" written by Hilferding from the royal library, there are no online versions of the book, so if anyone wants it I can type it out, although it will take a long time (one or two weeks), so that's why I started this thread to see if a significant number of people want it, I don't want to type it out for 1 person.

Anyone interested?

Definitely! Type it up and send it in to marxists.org

What would perhaps be a better idea would be to scan the text and use a basic programme that can easily pick up text and put it into a word programme. Though obviously this requires a scanner. Still, getting hold of one could prove a worthy endeavour comrade. Good luck with it.
However, if you choose to type it, I'm sure a number of people will be interested so it would be worth your time.

It would be very interesting to read - but could you provide a little more information about what the book is about (other than just Finance Capital ;) )? Maybe just a few samples or something?

Alright then, it seems that alot of people are interested, I will mail Marxists.org and see if they are interested too, I have decided to type it out. :)

I will make a thread in the theory forum with some excerpts from it in a few days.

Note, this book is also very difficult to obtain in real life, I found one copy via abebooks....it was 190 dollars, so this will definitely be worth it.

That costs money, and sadly I spent it all on a new computer, but I don't mind typing it out, I actually enjoy having to do something useful.

I admire your dedication to the forum for typing an entire book out. Keep up the good work.

If you've got the money to buy $190 books then surely you have some money to use a scanner. It's a better investment that weeks of typing/proof reading.

Librarys usually have free scanners anyway.

What are you people talking about? I didn't buy the book, I borrowed it from the royal library, and they had to order it from a university.

Not really, I took the money out of my savings account, but yes, I am most certainly "well off" financially, so are 90% of the people in this nation.

Scanning for free from a library seems like a good idea, I'll see if I can do that.

You need cretin programs to scan a book into text rather then a pic or whatever.

And even then you still need to proof check it.

You could scan each page then turn it into a pdf file.

Scanning it won't work, basically because I'm too lazy to go to the library which is in another city and do it.

So I'll begin on typing it out tomorrow, my prediction of it taking one or two weeks was way too optimistic, it will be more like 1 or 2 months.

I'll post the introduction and content list tomorrow in a thread in the theory section.

You dont need to pay for all those programs, make friends with the computer ubsessed and they should be able to get you any program for free.

So you're too lazy to go down to the library... but you'll undertake a task which is not only tediously boring, but will also take several months to do?

Ok, I wrote the Preface and got bored with it, so I'm not gonna write any more of it.

But don't worry, I will now use my blog to write on several subjects which concern the revolution, my first entry is called: Notes on various subjects (http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php?act=blog&id=11330)

Enjoy and learn.

(You can still read the Preface and Contents of Finance Capital in my blog.)

How exactly do you do that? Like those adobe book files that look perfect. Am interested in knowing how it's done, I can share a great amount of books!
