I've heard that for one full day if you don't eat anything, and only drink water this cleanses your body of toxins. Is this true, and would you recommend it?

19th century myth.
It won't hurt you...but won't "cleanse" you either.

You can get scientifically proven de-tox diets from your local pharmacy

I thought this whole detox thing had been shown to be a bunch of bollocks? Like that stupid one where you only eat salad and water for a week or something. I don't think they do any harm, but I think the benefits are probably due to the placebo effect, if there are any benefits to start with.

there are the water and lettuce leaves one which are as redstar said are bollocks
but there are chemical de-tox diets that combine a month of high fiber (fiber speeds up bowel movements) and high nutrients (fiber clears it all out and then the nutrients replace every thing) lots of pills and shit.

There is nothing unhealthy about fasting for moderate amounts of time.
On the other hand if you are trying to pass a drug test, i would go to your local headshop or health food store and get a detox kit.
They are fairly expensive, so if that is not the case exercize, lots of water, and any a few saunas should do the trick.

Actually, not exactly.
There is more to it than that.
Normally, your body does its “detoxification” by itself. In a nutshell, it involves your cells getting rid of the toxins which head to the liver or the kidney through your blood circulation where they are converted into a water-soluble form and then eliminated.
Water helps that circulation. Thus toxins and wastes will not accumulate at some places.
Some doctors may also suggest drinking pure water. Although there are no extremely solid proofs for its efficacity, many in the field believe that it has to do with the electronegativity of the H2O molecule. Basically, the end result is that the cell’s intake of water will increase, the wastes will solubilize into water and then smoothly get out of the cell and into circulation.
Is this too detailed? I am a medicine freak.

I heard yoga cleanses the body. Or does that clense the soul?
