Did Che actually volunteer at the leper colony as is portrayed in the movie? I don't remember the John Lee Anderson biography going in depth into this. Had Che planned it out in case he was infected with leprosy, therefore causing him to stay at that colony forever?

Yes, I read the book but I seriously couldn't remember. I was just wondering if Che had really thought out the matter and if he was willing to spend his entire life at the leper colony.

Alberto Granado also stated that when he went back to the leper colony during the filming of the "motorcycle diaries," a couple of lepers who were kids at the time, thanked him because they said after they left, they were finally treated as human beings.
