Seven people have been killed and five hurt in an explosion at a coal mine in south-west Romania, officials say.
The blast is said to have taken place early on Saturday morning at the mine in Anina in Caras Severin county.

A county official, Petre Seres, told the AFP news agency the injured miners were in a serious condition and had been rushed to hospital.

Mr Seres said some 200 people working in the mine at the time of the explosion had been evacuated.

An investigation has begun into the blast, which officials say may have been caused by gas.

Five miners died in accidents in Romania in 2005, according to the Associated Press news agency.

There seems to be an increase in workplace accidents. Perhaps a sign that Capitalism is heading back to its earlier form?

Or perhaps to it's future form? A form where the owners do not care about their workers because if one dies, there are many more waiting to fill his/her place. A future where unions are discouraged and even outlawed in some places. A future where workplace accidents go unreported because they are simply unimportant. A future without regulations to insure the safety of workers. Perhaps the future is the past?

China, America and now Romania... they seem to be dropping like flies :o

All in three nations that practice gangster capitalism in one form or another.

I'd like to interject a tidbit I heard on the radio about this...

Apparently the owners of the mining companys got message that 7 out of 8 miners were officialy dead. They announced five minutes after getting word of this that the miners were alright. When, in reality, only one was alive (which he was far from alright, he was in critical condition, suffering from quite a bit of coal in his lungs <_< .) After a bit (I've forgotten how long) they eventually told the familys of the miners (who at the time had insinuated that by them saying "They are alright!" That that ment that their loved ones were alive) that seven out of eight miners were in fact dead.

Now, these familys first heard (on the news probably, or by friend) that the mine shaft where their dad (I'm assuming) was working. They rush to the scene of the accedent, and are not told anything for two solid days. Then they are told that their father was alive. Five minutes into that they are told that their father was dead, and was dead when they told them that he was alive.

I don't get this... is it a sick joke? Is it just morons who think postponing the truth will make it hurt less?

Anyway, I'm sorry if I have my facts off, this is from a few nights ago that I heard on the radio. It's also 2:55AM, so my brain is like a pathfinder in the middle of a desert.
