You sound dumb, very dumb
I'll let someone who's seen the film judge it

IMO this film was crap, it dragged on too long, very averagedly acted, ended badly and had a wayward plot. Imnot a fan of war films though tbh, i like more the deniro, pacino etc gangster films, but this film was crap.

I enjoyed it. The direction was good and there was some great camera work. The end was a little random and unexplained, but overall, I liked it and I'd reccomend it.
Oh, and compare Gulf War I with Gulf War II after seeing it. Blows the mind how different they are.

It's almost a week later and I'm still pondering this film

Effectivly, a bad overall film. But, I'm not a fan of the forced mans army. Plus, my expirience was worsened by the drunk naval NCO sitting next to me.

I couldn't help irritating me on the american soldier who talked about how the whole war was about securing oil for american capitalists...what the hell was he doing there?!
Or did he think that it was a good enough reason to go to war?

A large part of the film was dedicated to exploring the reasons why decent, working-class guys join the army. With the major conclusion being that they have no choice, they have to make a living.
Whether you think that's a decent excuse or not is a matter of opinion but you've gotta remember that the film was based on a non-fiction book - so there is little point in attacking the film politically.

Hmm...you're right...I wasn't really attacking it though...I thought it was a good movie! And I wasn't irritated on that guy because he was IN the movie...but because he was there...but as you say...he didn't have no choice!

I thought it was a very good movie and one of the better ones I saw in the theater in 2005.

I agree completely, in fact it's currently the best of 2005 I've seen. Brilliant acting, a new message, great camerawork, some of the best use of narration ever, and absolutely astounding cinematography. Regardless of this, you have to admire Mendes for taking a chance and not putting in as much explosions as he possibly can. As many critics point out, it's a "no-war is hell" film rather than a "war is hell" film. It's a shame so many people went to see that film hoping for battle every five minutes, because although there are loads who claim it as being boring I will stand by the fact that it's perhaps the greatest war film since the 80's.
Many compare it to Full Metal Jacket and admittedly it does pale slightly in comparison to Kubrick's masterpiece but then again pretty much everything does so that hardly a huge criticism.
