I stumbled upon this article on BBC News and if the results are accurate, it seems quite remarkable that modern science can "pin-point" where we came from. However, there are drawbacks, one can only imagine just how happy anti-Semites will be to be able to say "look, we're different to the Jews". Anyway, here it is....

Almost half of Europe's Jews are descended from just four women who lived 1,000 years ago, a study says.
Scientists studied the mitochondrial DNA - passed from mother to daughter - of 11,000 women of Ashkenazi Jewish origin living in 67 countries.

The Ashkenazis moved from the Mid-East to Italy and then to Eastern Europe, where their population exploded in the 13th Century, the scientists say.

One of the authors said the study shows the importance of Jewish mothers.

"This I could tell you even without the paper," Dr Doron Behar of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology told Reuters news agency.

Genetic signature

The four women are thought to have lived in the Middle East about 1,000 years ago but they may not have lived anywhere near each other, according to the study published in the American Journal of Human Genetics.

However, they bequeathed genetic signatures to their descendents, which do not appear in non-Jews and are rare in Jews not of Ashkenazi origin.

The Ashkenazis are thought to have travelled from the Middle East to Italy in the first or second Centuries.

In Central and Eastern Europe, many spoke Yiddish - a form of German, mixed with Hebrew.

Ashkenazi comes from an old Hebrew word for Germany.

By the outbreak of World War II, there were some nine million, some two-thirds of whom were killed by the Nazis.

There are now some eight million people of Ashkenazi origin living around the world, the researchers say.

Some 3.5m, or 40%, of them are descended from the four women, they say.

Personally, I wouldn't have thought such accuracy was possible.

"look, we're different to the Jews"

I dont think anyone disagreed that Ashkanazi Jew's are a middle eastern ethnicity. Not that that means anything. I think Middle Eastern people are considered Caucasian anyway's.

They are not...there are considered Semetic. Jews were, originaly, totally Middle Eastern, and probably closely resembled modern day Palestinians as well as the Ancient Jewish communities which stayed in the region. Through contact with the Hittites, and then later Europeans, Khazars, and other groups through diaspora, the Ashkanazi Jew has adopted traits from their hoast countries over the past two thousand years.

there are considered Semetic.

Semetic and middle easternm are synomous.

Jews were, originaly, totally Middle Eastern, and probably closely resembled modern day Palestinians as well as the Ancient Jewish communities which stayed in the region.

Just as an aside, genetic testing has shown that palistinian's have signifigant Jewish heritage.

Basicly, there Arabizied Jew's (Though Jews and Arabs are very similar in the first place).

Through contact with the Hittites, and then later Europeans, Khazars, and other groups through diaspora, the Ashkanazi Jew has adopted traits from their hoast countries over the past two thousand years.

This is blatantly false, and here is why;

1. Jew's in the Europe rarley had realation's with gentiles, becuase in most part's of europe the Jews were ghettoizied and this practice was forbidden.

2. The Khazar's were a small population of turks who converted to juadaism. They intermarried with large Syrian and Persian Jewish populations residing in Khazaria , making them mainly Sephardic, and becuase of there already semetic heritage, the Khazar's had a minute effect on the Jewish Gene pool.

3. Ditto with the Hittites.
