The left is the only opposition to western capitalism and its evil vices of racism, patriarchy and class. However, i find myself shocked to see that the left is in such a disorganised state. I find it promising to see boards such as this discussing and debating the issues that confront us but more needs to be done to tackle the problem of putting ourselves in the position to make change possible.
The largest difference between the left and the capitalists is that they have the numbers and the support to defeat us outright if we tried to oppose them more visibly. How to gain the support of the people is our biggest issue as leftists. We dont need to worry so much about differing ideologies at the moment (after all, who are we to question the greatest minds of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century). Instead of dividing our efforts and opposing other leftists we should all put aside our differences in the common cause of spreading the word of anti capitalism in whatever brand you advocate, be it anarchist, maoist, marxist or socialist.
We need to start putting ideas forward to gather support. In this time of right wing oppression and subvertion we need to show the people that there are alternatives. There is a better way.
No longer do they have to walk about their mundane lives knowing that they will die under capitalism but for the first time in their lives they can choose.
One main problem of the left is that we have alienated ourselves from mainstream social politics since the cold war. Now is the time when we can show our faces and become part of the community.
Campaigns of leaflets, posters and pamphlets can begin. Marches can take place. The left can rise again. It is up to us to do it.
