This has been going on for over 40 years. And yet, we do business with China like they are our best friend. Why is Castro such a huge threat to America?

In seventh grade (the beginning of my communist thinking) I sent a letter to Bush as part of a persuasive letter project for english telling Bush to drop the embargo because it was just plain stupid. Let's just say I didn't really get much back, except a picture of him and a letter telling me I could learn more at my local library, dumb generic letter.
I doubt that it will ever end, until Cuba falls to American influence or the revolution takes place in America, whichever comes first. Castro isn't a threat to America, he just doesn't fit in with US interests.

He's not longer a threat towards America. The US is simply holding a grudge against Cuba since Castro has been a thorn in their side since 1959.

Not completely accurate, America is very selective about Chinese goods... it will not buy from Norinco or "North China Industries Firearms" because it supports "Communism". There for Norinco firearms are BANNED in the US but legal in Canada.

Mostly the US has an embargo on Cuba because it can get away with it.
It makes Cuba look bad, and it is hurting their economy, while the US economy is unscathed from it.
With China, that is too much of a gold mine for US Corporations.
Mmmmmmm... economics.............

The US embargo against Cuba has been voted illiegal by evry member of the UN except the US. Canada and the Netherland are two of Cuba's largest trading partners. Things will improve in Cuba as more and more countries symply choose to ignore the US blockade.

In 2002 the US imported $100 Million worth of goods from NORINCO. In May 2003 the U.S. imposed sanctions on NORINCO for selling arms to Iran.

The embargo has and is taking place becasue of the threat of a godd exmaple - the formation and development of a socilaist state that has the largest amount of doctors and teachers in the world. Through the embargo, the US is pushing Castro to ever-more extreme means to preserve the cuban revolution and socialism in the country.

the "embargo" is an euphemism to hide the inhuman (and illegal, according to international law) policy of brutally blocking one country's economy, like trying to "starve them to death". Unless you have a certain knowledge of economics and understand the importance of trade in a global capitalist economy, It's easy to underestimate the deep impact the blockade has on the cuban society, and the enormous effort the cubans are doing. Thanks to the planned economy and the socialization of the means of production, as well as the high level of consciousness in the Cuban working class, Cuba has developed one of the world's best health programs, 100% free education, high cultural levels and other human development standards. The internationalist policy of Cuba is the worst threat to US imperialism, and the embargo could only be destroyed by raising solidarity with Cuba and a strong unity among latin american countries. Otherwise, Cuba could reverse it's social gains and fall due to material conditions imposed by the blockade.

Yes you are very right Metalero.Check out www.cuba-solidarity.org.uk , its a very good solidarity website which explains all aspects of Cuba through a non-biased point of view.
They did almost the same to Iraq under the brutal rule of Saddam(still no reason to starve innocent Iraqi's) which resulted in approx 500,000 deaths.
I read somewhere that Fidel Castro usto supply Saddam with his cuban cigars, is this true?

As long as people are blinded by American propaganda, especially the whining coming from those Cuban gusanos down in Miami, the embargo will continue to harm Cuba's chances for further economic development
Only though a revolution or the mass mobilization of US politicians and people against the embargo, will bring its removal
Its unfortunate how America has distorted the truth, and even lied in regards to Cuba
And, the propaganda that the US's employs, has so far been very effective thus creating anti Castroism or anti Cuban sentiment within many Americans and Euro's
On many encouters, I've had to explain and expound to students at my university, all the many positive things, in addition to few negative things which have come about as a direct result of Cuba's political system
To show them that Cuba's overall population lives better than the majorities in other Latin American countries
Many people still perceive Cuba as a communist totalitarin state still living in prehistoric times
Untill all people begin to eradicate this type of ignorance fed to them by America's fourth branch of gov, the embargo is here to stay, and in the future, it may possibly bring about the fall of Cuba's autonomy
