Eventho i dont know many communist bands.. i like RATM.. they have good music, and lyrics with a meaning and straight to the point..
i also like political punk, which is what i consider the REAL punk, cuz punk is all about revolution and rebelling against the establishments and corporations...
i like anti-flag, bad religion and that stuff.. but kinda a little bit like old punk stuff, like the sex pistols n stuff...
and i also like nu-metal, eventho its not political much... but ratm IS nu-metal

RATM is cooler than Nu Metal. Although I am more sentimental about them than a fan per-sa. To be honest, politically it isn't spectacular, but they are fun to listen to and play.
Actually my rather freak entry into politics and economics was through rage, after I played in a band that did a few covers. Killing in the Name is still one of the most fun songs to play live, and is still the only song I ever got to sing solo in. :D

Pretty good band though.

Thats shit, there are lots of main stream bands and artists with a political message, and usually much better bands.

Dunno if that would fit though

I don't wanna sound like a music snob, but Rage Against The Machine are hardly clever, artistic songwriters. I mean, I've no problem with what they're doing in using the medium of music as a tool to express a political opinion. This is, of course, one of the definitions of any artform. But as far as songwriting goes, it's not very creative.
I mean, nobody sits there listening to RATM thinking, "Hmmmm, what do they mean when they scream, 'FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT THEY TELL ME' over and over again".
See my thread on The Strokes for what I consider more creative, artistic songwriting. If anyone is interested and doesn't have The Strokes album, I suggest downloading a track called "Ize of the World". It is just as much a political protest song as anything else. Or, more so maybe, a tirade against the ills of the modern world: something I see as more of a problem than political incompetence. Or, indeed, the cause of political imcopmetence. The lyrcis are sharp, clever and very powerful.

the band wagon is heavy metal, btw, and that hardly has the most intelligent or political demographic. for example, while strummer was singing about london burning, vince neil was singing about getting laid and taking zombie dust!

Whats the point in being diplimatic, any backlash is stupid, the music you like is your opinion and you can't change what other people think of artists, some people here need to learn that.

But of course, however change alters as you get older. Teenagers love bands like RATM, but they also love rubbish like slipknot, when you het older you start listening to your mum or dads records and realise that ELO, 10CC, David Bowie and the Smiths are better than Rage will ever be, and they aren't even as good as what you later listen to.
Kids have shit taste in music.

Calm down. I was being diplomatic because I couldn't be bothered arguing why artists such as The Strokes, The Libertines, The Clash, The Stones, The Stone Roses, Bowie, The Smiths, Hendrix, Dylan etc etc etc are all far better than RATM.
It for the exact reason you gave for why I SHOULDNT be diplomatic that I WAS diplomatic. They wont change their opinion. Untill, maybe, as Enigma suggests, they get older.
To me, as Enigma said, young people on the whole have shit taste in music. But that's because theyre young. Hey, I'm not old, only 20, but from the age of about 16-20, you tend to see the light in music terms.

My perents records suck, INXS and stuff. I think I have a wide range in taste for a 15 year old, from rage to the mars volta (one of my favs at the moment), led zep and tool, nirvana and the clash. But I do see what you mean, most people my age to just stick to what they like, I still don't think you should slam other peoples tastes.

Stereotyping, Enigma style. Thank you for that. Especially as a teenager who listens to Pink Floyd, Led Zep, the Stones, the Beatles, and yes, RATM. Always good to lead by example, openmindedness and intelligence, show us ignorant kids how it's done, Enigma.

Stereotyping? Not at all, I was 11-16 once as well. I know what I listened too and what my peers listened to. I also noted my own tastes change and those of the people around me. Its a fact of life, taste changes, and invariably becomes far more refined.
Especially as a teenager who listens to Pink Floyd, Led Zep, the Stones, the Beatles, and yes, RATM.
I was listening to that stuff when i was an early teenager as well, but from that my tastes expanded. Thats life, you listen to Pink Floyd, then you get into similar less commercial less well known music of the same genre.
openmindedness and intelligence, show us ignorant kids how it's done,
Openmindedness is overrated and lacking intelligence is what annoys me about rage.
What's your point?
If I need to explain it again, then you obviously weren't paying attention the first time, re-read.
Oh and Morrissey without Marr is crap.

Enigma- I love RAtM but I have yet in my life to enjoy Slipknot. I am convinced that they are shit and along with most "NuMetal" bands.
I love old school stuff, mainly hip-hop and folk, its not like I Just listen to RAtM.
Also I know 1 person my age who had heard of Rage before I told him about it, so not all angry teenagers listen to it.

What? I think Enigma has an incredibly valid point.
As you get older your taste in music will invariably change, you will gain new influences in your life and find new music you'll like. You'll spend the years 16-20 trying to pretend you never liked the music you did when you were younger.
Everyone has a rage phase, a nirvana phase, a clash phase etc You'll grow out of it, don't worry.

I don't really care what Enigma thinks though, because anyone arrogant enough to say that they know better because they're older, and that their opinion is somehow more 'right' than yours, well, Hell, that's one step from saying that their religion is the 'right' one.
