Now, these guys absolutely rock. Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables is one of those flawless, filler-free albums, I love it. There are of course a few weaker tracks, but that doesn't mean that they're bad or dull songs, just not as good as the others.
I am getting Frankenchrist soon, I already have MTV Get Off The Air! (how truthful!) from it, am looking forward. By the way, Jello Biafra is a great vocalist, and I like his political actions. I need to check out his spoken word stuff.
Anyways, what are your opinions?

A few years ago, lots of music rags were doing stories on the "25 years of punk music". I read one of the magazines and they buried their DK story towards they very end of a list which included many many lesser bands (I mean DK still has a pretty big following in California). The article had a tiny picture and the description literally said something along the lines of:
This band was largely responsible for creating a punk scene in northern california. Their music was a ferocious blend of punk and rockabilly, but their lyrics no longer hold up unless you like reading obscure radical newspapers from 20 years ago which have very little connection to current politics.
Damn liberal media!

Bullshit. 'When ya Get Drafted' is so relevant to the situation of the world today.

I don't think they HATE communism and capitalism, I think they just ridiculed them both in Holiday in Cambodia, mainly the capitalists. the rich kids who think they suffer, but they wouldn't know the true meaning of suffering unless they served in a hellhole like Cambodia.
It's a satirical song, one of my reasons for loving them, is their sense of humour.
@commie rat: I think they had a few vaguely political songs, but overall they were more of a 'feelgood' band. They also rock.

"Kill The Poor" is still relevant as are most of their songs, especially since the USA is still being run by the same Nixon-Reagan wanna be's and retreads now as it was then.
"Pull My String" which is against the recording industry is more true now than it was then.
The Dead Kennedys had what most bands now lack, origanality.

The best punk band from the US without question. Jello continues to do great work up to today collaborating with the Melvins, DOA, Nomeansno, Ministry, Mojo Nixon and doing some great spoken word stuff too. While the rest of the band has recently reformed with new singers and trying to fool people into believing they are getting the real thing. You can't have DK without Jello.
As for the Ramones, no never really political, "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg" is probably one of the few exceptions.

Yeah I'm really pissed I'll never see the Dead Kennedys perform live... oh well.
I want to check out Lard, Jello's side project with Ministry...
BTW Biafra is one of the best frontmen ever, IMO.

Not really, but DeeDee was a member in a communistparty in Argentina:s of all places, but they werent really political. I've seen Johnny wear a t-shirt saying kill a commie, do it for mommy or something with this US flag and stuff.. that almost made me cry....

Johnny Ramone, the guitarist for The Ramones, has fiercely supported the Republican Party for years.
When the Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, Johnny took to the microphone to offer his thanks, saying "God Bless President Bush, and God Bless America."
The Ramones also did a tv commercial for Budweiser "beer" in the 1980's.. Yuck.
-----------------------------------
The Dead Kennedys were excellent. Their tune "Stars and stripes of corruption" on the "Frankenchrist" album is superb.

It isn't supposed to be, at least not musically, but lyrically I'd say it is quite comparable.

Great band, their material is still relevant (unfortunately).
Jello Biafra is an arrogant prick, but his music is great.

I found him to be obnoxious and rude, so did everyone else who met him. None of us could stand him after being around him for a while. He had more money than we'd ever seen and he would tear people apart for fun.
That was some years ago. He may have matured by now.
