There are many parallels between the the 'guilded' age and now, though i wonder whether there was ever any significant change. In any case this "new guilded age" is far more subtle than the last one.

'Guild' has a double meaning, get it?

Since you're probably too stupid to ever comprehend it, let me lay out for you the (obvious) witticism:

'Guild' can mean either 'gild', as you meant it to say, or a group of tradesmen, as a union.

A proleterian revolution would indeed set up a 'guilded age'.
