I am posting this a bit after the fact, only because I have seen the Human Rights issue raised in other forums – so I feel as though this is specifically noteworthy here and now. .

Please take note of how the United States vote went down on this issue.

Thanks to Costa Rica and NO thanks to the United States – whom I might point out was AGAINST this protocol – the UN Anti-Torture Protocol DID in fact pass last year. But as we ALL must know by NOW – NOTHING that the UN votes for and/or stands for as far as Human Rights are concerned matters to the United States – specifically. This was EVEN stated by the president of the United States numerous times, including during the State of the Union Address to the people of the nation of the United States. The US will do as it pleases regardless of the UN vote in any and all issues. This is what was said “officially” and this is how it is – evidently!!!

This article is from the December 20th "year-end 2002" edition of the Costa Rican leading English language newspaper – The Tico Times……..!!!!! Jus’ so ya know – it’s real and it’s official.

UN Anti-Torture Protocol Passes

The General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) passed the Costa Rican-sponsored Protocol against Torture on Wednesday, despite U.S. resistance to the measure.

Costa Rica’s Foreign Minister Roberto Tovar celebrated the protocol approved as "a resounding diplomatic triumph for Costa Rica, and a giant step in favor of humanity."

The protocol to the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel or Unusual Treatments was approved by 127 countries, while four voted against and 42 abstained from voting. The United States, Nigeria, Palau and the Marshall Islands voted against the protocol.

"Costa Rica’s important role promoting this new international judicial tool has been recognized." Tovar said. "We appreciate and are thankful for all the support we have gotten from the numerous nations and people who understand the importance of the protocol."

The protocol sets up a system of regular prison visits by international experts to judge the conditions of
countries jail conditions and standards of punishments.

*** end of that article

I don’t expect that any of these measure will ever come to pass, since it is obvious that the United States is running the show Globally – rather than democratic vote of the UN countries and their wishes.

Hail Costa Rica and To Hell With The United States!!!!

This is two sided

As we know the US never keeps on the rules, except if it comes in handy and another hostile nation broke the rule, then they they grab the oppurtunity for armed initiative.

On the other hand it also strengtens us in our fight against captalism. With this on going breaking of international treaties it could mean the end of the US because of a world wide revolt.

If USA continues with things lke this, and it gets media coverage, they are digging their own grave.

That's so true, but on the other hand like I said in my post if they abuse the media they could use it against other nations and groups.

Like in Iraq right now, Iraq has researched nukes and suddenly is the big terrorist.
They are forgotting about their own backyard, so it seems, filled with who knows 10,000 nukes.

I totally agree. Since pro-america class-capitalists controll nearly all large media stations, it is hard to delver the truth.

And U$A hav never forgotten their backyard, or is it really a backyard? I would say that it is rather shown for the whole world to spread warnings and terror, yet noone dares to say anything on it.

The fact is that these news items do NOT get ANY coverage in the US media at all. The truth is deliberately being kept from the American people, and this is why a lot of people here are so damned brainwashed. It makes me sick.

I saw an article about this ages ago in the torygraph, which seems to be pretty anti-bush, or was when I read the article. It sickens me, can't they abide by everyone else's rules, as they are the ones who are so keen on enforcing them when it comes to other "rogue" states.
