"Liberate Taiwan" "Chinese People's Volunteer Army" "Down with Japanese militarism" Classic Humour. I don't see how these bold faced lies are supposed to make people support socialism.

No matter what you say, the PRC has done far more to restrict personal liberties of speech, expression, and the press than Taiwan.

Japan has a pacifist constitution, and although they aren't really following that now by participating in Iraq, Japan certainly was not militaristic in the 70s.

Volunteer Army? Good one.

I don't know what you are trying to prove, but these posters just make the grim realities of the failure of the People's Republic of China as a socialist state seem more blatant than ever.

Wow CrazyModerate, you absolutely lack any sense of history. China was invaded by fascist Japan during World War II. After the Chinese Revolution the Nationalist staged a coup in Taiwan.

"Chairman Mao's writings are like the sun" 1964
Mao sure took full advantage of his name. Dong means east, which goes along with the "red sun in our hearts".

"The Chinese Communist Party fully represents the developmental demands of China" 2000
 Yes, that's why development is limited to the cities and the peasants are left in the dust.

"Study the advanced production experience of the Soviet Union, struggle for the industrialization of our country" 1953
I think that the party tried to get rid of these posters when they pursued the Great Leap Forward.

"Only Socialism can help China, Only Socialism can develop China" 1989
I think Deng and the party bureacrats meant to say that only capitalism could develop China.

But the pre-1976 posters denouncing western imperialism were pretty nice.

Really good posters!

Care about health, fight SARS

:D :D That's good. I live in toronto and saw first hand the whole sars paranoia thing. people were practically locked away of tehy even looked sick, or asian for that matter.

Anyways, I like those modern posters. Its interesting to see that they still think thier modern technological advancements are a result of communism. (more like western capitalist influence). However i really like those space posters, you cant argue that the communists were the first in space. :hammer:

I doubt there's anyone outside some tiny Chinese village who doubts that. And they'll realise it when the bulldozers come for them.

It doesn't mean you can't admire the art.

I doubt that. The Cultural Revolution was one of the most amazing things to happen in a workers’ state. How unfortuante it is that the Chinese communes modelled themselves after the revolutionary committees rather than the Shanghai Commune.

The Cultural Revolution was simply part of Mao's plan to regain control of the state from the entrenched bureacracy. When the Red Guards had fulfilled their purpose, they were put down by the PLA. It was the peak of Mao's personality cult and some people were arrested by the Red Guards simply because they may not have had enough Maoist texts. Yes, some of the changes during that period may have been positive but it mainly caused massive chaos in China. That chaos wasn't progressive, rather it pushed China back a few years. The most visible effects of that period today are the former Red Guards who are now considered the Lost Generation.
