I don't think we should ever give much credit to Pat Robertson.

Is anybody else starting to think that Robertson is just a fictional character designed to make Bush look centrist?

Pat Robertson has been playing the "idiot boy" for many years now. I understand what is mean't by God's land, ie, land belonging to the decendants of Israel. Since he is a Fundie, he, and others like him, also make claims to the land since they were born again as spiritual Jews. :o
Also, Fundies could care less if Palestinians are killed. So much for Xian love.

He's an Evangelist, which makes his support of Israel, quite instering since Evangelist usually are faily anti-semitic.

Actually, I think what really upsets a lot of people is that guys like Robertson say in public what many others really think.
Hypocrisy is so thick in American political life that when anyone speaks plainly, the near-universal response is outrage.
Robertson is a Christian Fascist and actually says publicly what he really thinks.
And I frankly think his tactic gains him support among those already inclined to favor his outlook.
And maybe others as well. :o
Do you not imagine that many Americans are thoroughly sick of the "official platitudes" and "fashionable banalities" that dominate what passes for public discourse in this country?
Even a tired "Old Laborite" like George Galloway would be a national scandal in the U.S.
What I wish we had in the U.S. were communists who were as blunt and outspoken as Robertson...and could get the national media coverage, of course.
The "celebrity left" in the U.S. are wimps...always worried that they might "offend someone" by telling the truth in plain words.
And always worried about "appearing respectable" and "responsible".
I think we should learn from guys like Robertson. Public honesty is better!
No matter what your politics are!

I think the phase should read "Save me Jesus, from your followers". Religious extremism is on the rise... it needs to be crushed. Sharon, I do not have much respect for but he does not deserve to be tarnished by the 700 Club and Pat Robertson. Thats plainly, as low as you can go.
Pat is practising Voodoo Christianity again.
What next?

In response to Redstar: I dont think that any leftist in the US could do that with media spotlight, mostly due to the fact many of the things necessary to accomplish communism are deemed illegal here.

You seem t have a real optimist attitude redstar but qiut frankly if we did have that exposure and the ability to say what we want we would just be demonized by the meadia and take things we say out of context and im pretty sure most of what we think is really offensive to the rest of america beacuse come on we dont believe in "god" that right there would offend most of america. amercia is not ready to hear the truth there all hopped up on apathy but if given the chance i would do it my self :hammer:

many evangelists believe that the apocolypse will occur only when the seven tribes of israel are renuited in the "promised land". For some christian fundementalists this is thier reason to support of the israeli state, to bring about the apocolypse.
In this case i think this explains the comments that he made.
On a side note, pat robertson is close "spiritual advisor" of george bush.

The Neocons support Israel because they're Jewish, the Christian right Supports Israel so the Jews can be thrown into the fiery furnace.
Aren't there *supposedly* 12 Tribes of Israel? Bah, doesn't matter.
I sometimes watch the 700 Club, Just for kicks.

Before I start I would like to point out that even though that dumbshit (Robertson) doesn't realize it, he's giving the hand gesture that he's supposedly against :P.
Anyway are any of you suprised that he'd say something like this? I mean come on. Chavez anyone? If any of you remember Mr. Holy Roller threatened that Chavez guy. I forgot if it was a hit or something like that. Robertson really is the guy that needs to be put in a nice little white padded cell. He's a nutcase.

His nonsense is getting laughable. He was accusing Chavez of supporting the Taliban, now this.

Haha, I know, he said Venezuela will become a hotbed for muslim extremism, if the US does not take him out. The scary part is many in the US think the same way.

Pat Robertson Says Pie Not Delicious
December 14, 2005 | Issue 41•50
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA—Televangelist Pat Robertson, who recently condemned the town of Dover, PA for accepting evolution and called for the assassination of leftist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, said during a Sunday broadcast of The 700 Club that pie is not delicious. "Pie is a corrupt and foul-tasting pastry-covered baked-fruit abomination that shall turn to ashes in the mouth of the misled eater," Robertson said during his 11-minute anti-pie tirade. "The pious eat not the pie, knowing it an unclean thing, nor the crust, nor the filling. Get thee behind me, pie!" Stunned 700 Club viewer Melody Blaker of Houston told reporters that that the evangelist had "abandoned common sense."

Robertson's statement is fucking ridiculous, as we all have come to expect, but even more ridiculous is the fact that the majority of the members of the political party that controls this country(United States) would agree with him. And they'd agree with his other assinine statements, as well as all of his fundemental insane wacko religo crackpot earth is flat beliefs. If "this god character" was punishing Sharon for anything it was probably his responsibility in the deaths and displacement of countless innocent Palestinians.

Quoted for truth. You seem to hear about some "Dixie Chicks" or whatnot apologising for offending Bush supporters almost daily. Ah well, it's still better than celebrities here, all they do is pretend to care by asking for donations for Kashmir earthquake victims. Of course, they don't give a penny themselves, or maybe they're kind enough to put off their new yacht for a month...

From the article:
He said, “God considers this land to be his. You read the Bible and he says ‘This is my land,’ and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says, ‘No, this is mine.”’
A lovely example of the anti-Semitism of Christian Zionists, telling Israelis that they must serve as cannon fodder without the slightest hesitation or compromise.
Even the ADL - Robertson's ally in supporting Israel - had to come out against this statement, but very mildly.
If an opponent of the Israeli state or the occupation said the blatantly anti-Semitic things Robertson and Falwell do, the ADL would break out the verbal napalm.
Al Franken's actually got a good section on Robertson and Israel in "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot." Points out that Robertson says he supports Israel as a way to get all the Jews in one place so they can get squished when Armageddon comes.

An update on this story. Apparently the Israelis weren't impressed by Robertson's chat with God.
Israel punishes US TV evangelist
Israel is pulling out of a $50 million deal with US TV evangelist Pat Robertson after he said Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution.
Tourism Ministry spokesman Ido Hartuv said Israel would not sign a contract with Mr Robertson to build a biblical theme park by the Sea of Galilee.
Mr Robertson suggested on his popular TV show the stroke was a punishment for Israel's withdrawal from Gaza.
His remarks were condemned by the US government and American Jewish groups.
Mr Robertson was leading a group of evangelical Christians hoping to build the Galilee World Heritage Park.
You read the Bible: This is my land, and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he's going to carve it up and give it away, God says no, this is mine
Pat Robertson
The centre was expected to cover nearly 35 acres (14 hectares) north-east of the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus is believed to have delivered the Sermon on the Mount.
It would have had a park, an auditorium, a Holy Land exhibition, outdoor amphitheatres, information centre and a media studio.
The Israeli government had tentatively agreed to provide land and infrastructure for the centre in the hope of generating millions of dollars from tourism.
But relations soured when Mr Robertson said God wanted Israel to be whole and undivided and had therefore punished Mr Sharon for Israel's pull-out from the Gaza Strip last year.
'Unacceptable'
Mr Hartuv said his government was furious with Mr Robertson's remarks.
"We were due to sign a contract in the near future with Mr Roberson for the construction of a new Christian heritage centre in the Galilee," he told the AFP news agency.
"We, as the State of Israel, cannot accept what he said and we will not do any business with him or with anyone else who agrees with his view."
But Mr Hartuv insisted Israel had not rejected outright the idea of building the centre.
"The contract is still open - just not with Mr Robertson."
"If there are other Christian leaders, they are most welcome to sign a contract to bring Christian tourists to the state of Israel."
Mr Robertson is no stranger to controversy.
He was forced to apologise last year for calling for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
