Recently, theres been an alarming increase in children born with a nonverbal learning disorder, at 1:105 births since 1989.

I know some of the theories but i would love to hear more.

its those damn commies, poisoning our water! :D

but seriously, im going to research it some more later, but it could be down to certain chemicals in our foods and whatnot, apparently there is a higher number of autism in children who have been vaccinated as an infant, the vaccination contains some mercury or something.

the reason why is because of the drug companies. there is an large amount of mercury in vacinations. the mercury is used to prevent the vacine from going bad. how do you think it is so widespread. i don't know the specifics, but ive been reading up on it

Thats 1 good theory, but neurosceintists are saying different. Theres alot of debate as to if its just the mercury poisioning, or if there are other either hereditary or enviromental. Personally, i think it might be a combination of both. Or perhaps we're only noticing it recently, after all Aspergers Syndome was only pconsidered an actual NLD a few years back. Theres are also many individuals with forms of PDD, and NLD that have been misdiagnosed with ADHD/ADD with symptoms of co-morbidity. it'll take awhile for Psychologists and Neuroscientists to come up with a sound agreement, in my opinion.

But a good method of treatment in my opinion, are high-intervention, hands on, wilderness programs, and group therapy, its proven to work quite effectly on many individuals with PDD.

Or, if they can apply the meaning to themselves, they should read Herman Hesse's Steppenwolf.

What is NLD? Nonverbal learning disorders (NLD) is a neurological syndrome consisting of specific assets and deficits. The assets include early speech and vocabulary development, remarkable rote memory skills, attention to detail, early reading skills development and excellent spelling skills. In addition, these individuals have the verbal ability to express themselves eloquently. Moreover, persons with NLD have strong auditory retention. Four major categories of deficits and dysfunction also present themselves:

•motoric (lack of coordination, severe balance problems, and difficulties with graphomotor skills).

•visual-spatial-organizational (lack of image, poor visual recall, faulty spatial perceptions, difficulties with executive functioning* and problems with spatial relations).

•social (lack of ability to comprehend nonverbal communication, difficulties adjusting to transitions and novel situations, and deficits in social judgment and social interaction).

•sensory (sensitivity in any of the sensory modes: visual, auditory, tactile, taste or olfactory)

*definition of executive functioning: Neuropsychological functions including, but perhaps not limited to, decision making, planning, initiative, assigning priority, sequencing, motor control, emotional regulation, inhibition, problem solving, planning, impulse control, establishing goals, monitoring results of action, self-correcting.

in this small summary they did not include the difference in IQ wich is prominant in this disorder, when i was diagnosed i had to take an iq-test.
when your verbal and performal iq differ more than 30 points and when your verbal is higher than you performal, you can be diagnosed as in "you fit within the official criteria."
For me, test said I had a verbal iq of 124 and a performal of 94, wich are relative good scores, but somehow, it causes a lot of shit
