Ive recently fallen in love with the philosophy of absurdism, largley by the influence by the works of Herman Hesse, and Franz Kafka.

Just wondering what you all thought about it.

I find that it is not the most comforting belief system but it dose have it's merrits and it makes some interesting points. When you watch the news it makes more and more sense but when you wake up in the morning and go to work it dosen't seem to work anymore.

But thats just me...whatever helps you sleep at night.

It's hard to call absurdism as a philosphy.
It is based on idealism, a kind of pessimist idealism. (hey, i found a new category!)
Talking about absurds, esp. on theatre, it is a must to talk about these three events, disasters, disgraces of imperialism:

- second world war
- atom bomb
- auschwitz

of course, these events are disasters of the humanity. But we also know that, this is a product of imperialism: Maximum profit, no obstacles..

Absurds interpret this as the death of reason. Why does a human want to kill millions of people? It's senseless for them...

In my point of view, absurdism is a bourgeois reaction.. Bourgeois criticising bourgeois, so they can find no sense, no exit, except saying "this is absurd!"

I can understand this. Many of us didn't see anything like that, no mushroom clouds, no gas chambers..
If a child comes from Iraq or Palestine and says to me that the world is senseless, it is hard to tell him/her about imperialism, means of production etc.

But it really hurts me, when somebody, sleeping in a soft bed, eating hot meals, staying in a warm house, says that world is absurd. No way...

hows it so hard, we never deserved what we got, and we see so many suffer around us. That makes me feel that the world makes no sense at all, living in luxury i dont feel right having, makes no bit of sense to me, and its not all that depressing, it actually helps me move through rough moments, knowing that it makes just as little sense trying to fix them as it does trying to convince yourself that youll always have a good time.
