Consider this though.
The church use to burn real live people instead of small plastic figurines.

I love it!
One of the charges against the kids is "destruction of venerated objects".
I think every young revolutionary should do that!
Just don't get caught! :)

What the fuck?
That's a real charge?
I'm going to destroy some 'venerated object' some time, just out of spite, and I'm not even a revolutionary.

That is the most bullshit charges ever. Time to leave a Cleveland Steamer on baby Jesus.

Maybe next time it will be the churches, eh?
None the less, total asskickery. Those kids get +2 points for saying "we just wanted to see the face burn".

Canada beat you to it. Its good but not as fun as it sounds, granted it was empty when we did it and there was no Bush.

As I said before the church use to burn people alive instead of inanimate plastic dolls. "Satanism" or "Goth" whatever bored suburban kids are into these days is tame in comparison.

Yeah, I was going to say - I can understand them pressing charges for theft and vandalization, but I didn't even know that the "destruction of venerated objects" (because plastic jesus figurines are sacred as hell) was against the law. Do they have a criteria for that?
The kids were probably dumb as hell but I found the story pretty funny.

oh wow these kids are so hardcore and antiestablishment, omg they burnt a statue lolrofl!!!!!111oneone. seriously. thats the stupidest crap i've ever heard. learn to respect, what did the statue ever do to you. in fact, what did religion do to you. also do not confuse the actions of messed up, power hungry, hypocritical individuals (i.e. inquisitors, crusaders, terrorists, jurists) with the TRUE essence of a religion's dogma, almost all of which do not approve of needless killing. besides, eliminate a religious institution and it will just be replaced by a political institution just as curropst/bad or worse. example. past 100 years U.S. has been involved in non-religious wars such as WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietman, now Iraq (the list is much longer). but i can't say that i remember the catholic church, the biggest religious bureaucracy, claiming millions and millions of innocent lives all over the world this century or any other for that matter. and dont bring up incorrect statistics from the inquisitions that claim millions did die. if it had been millions as some claim, it is quite proven that the entire european population would have been decimated and looking quite smaller today than it is.

They destroyed things in a cemetary ? Gah, scum.
I do think the charge is a little daft though "destruction of a venerated object". There is I expect some point in it, as it'd prevent nutty christians going around smashing up everything Islamic/Jewish/Hindu etc whenever they felt like it, and well, people should (sorry for my opinion redstar, I know you disagree) have at least a little respect for other's beliefs.
It was British troops who burned the white house; General Ross ordered his regiments to sack the city after his truce party was fired at by US militia under their president.

Nothing, but it's an inanimate object, so I can't say I feel particularly bad for it.
in fact, what did religion do to you.
It killed my dog.
but i can't say that i remember the catholic church, the biggest religious bureaucracy, claiming millions and millions of innocent lives all over the world this century or any other for that matter.
You're shitting me? They persecuted "heretics" and held back "progress" for years back in the day! Did the Inquisition just never happen?
and dont bring up incorrect statistics from the inquisitions that claim millions did die. if it had been millions as some claim, it is quite proven that the entire european population would have been decimated and looking quite smaller today than it is.
God (Who does not exist), you're stupid! You realize that this is akin to Holocaust Denials, right? Of course it's quite probable that the statistics are incorrect if people are claiming that outrageously high numbers of people were killed, but do the deaths of thousands instead of millions make it all better? What's the magic number before the organization who commits the acts is considered "bad"? It's ok for me to torture some innocent people, so long as it's just a few?

Oh, and were they burning people in this church and the time? Probably not you paranoid little brat. When was the last time that occured? And how many people died at the hands of communists? Oh wait, they weren't real communists. Fine, if you want to make that argument...I'll just say they weren't true Christians or religious people.
What a bunch of spoiled, little brats. When these punks think of Christmas, it's probably
"Yay...a new XBOX 360....get out of my way."
No respect for anybody or anything whatsoever. What do they care how someone worships or not? Very authoritarian.

They did it out of boredom. Not because they were revolutionaries.
It wasn't their property. Which is why they were arrested. Hardly a cause for it to be in THIS forum. More in theory/practise/politics.
Also, they smashed up a grave stone or something?
The inquisition hardly resulted in the murder of "millions and millions".

It's not about them killing people and simply being part of the organization, it was their intent and the reason why they killed people that is important. We can say that Joseph Stalin killed people, but the point was that, regardless of whether or not he was a "true communist" he didn't kill people because of the doctine of communism. He killed people for his own reasons, not because "the manifesto said to".
The religious, on the other hand, didn't kill people because they wanted power or wanted to reaffirm their status; they did it because the bible "told them" to. I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse.

Certainly not! it's much too expensive and is unreliable as of now.

I seem to have to remind people that we're engaged in a war now. It's not a hot war as things haven't progress that far, but its a war nonetheless. In war property gets damaged and people get hurt and die. Anybody not convinced that we're in an ideological culture war with the religious right?

People take this kind of crap seriously in this day and age in which the Hubble space telescope peer millions of light years into space and which particle accelerators allow scientists to find subatomic particles. We've mapped the genetic origins of life itself and these shit-for-brains still take the creation myth of Genesis seriously. The damage all this garbage causes isn't too hard to find as the BLOODY KANSAS post illustrates. And I'm pretty sure there are hundreds of gay people who are beaten up or killed because some asshole thinks its their righteous biblical duty. Burning plastic figurines are tame in comparison.

Where in the bible does christ tell his followers to kill people?
indeed, Christ says do by all means stone a certain sinner. But only if you are without sin yourself. An argument he often came back to - for example, why look at the "splinter" in your brothers eye, when you have a "plank" in your own. All comes down to; don't judge others. As you have enough on your plate controling/influencing yourself.
Also, the pursuit and maintaining of power seems to always be involved on some level, in such religious persecution. Take the protestant Vs catholic persecutions in England; more often than not, they were related to power. Henry VIII went from the 'defender of the faith', to a state of persecuting those who did not believe that catholicism was wrong. He arguably went to war with scotland in an attempt to get his nephew to adopt his religion. Why? To increase his power - it was threatened by a catholic alliance to the south, he therefore needed to secure a friendly protestant north.
Why did stalin kill? arguably in the pursuite of, and maintaining power. Why did he want power? To implement communism?
Indeed, why would a communist kill; apart from to further the cause of communism in some way?

All kings and leaders of this world have worldy wealth, they wear golden crowns, they have mighty horses, they are proud, some are arrogant and they cannot be touched by common men. This King sits in a donkey, died and crucified in the Cross. He don't like us to sin... The evil employer who are not paying their employees right... it is a sin... He don't like it. There are Christians in different denominations in history who killed innocents... Jesus don't like that.
