This belongs in Music, not DIY. Unless of course you plan on forming your own screamo band. I'm not a huge fan of screamo anyways.

You gotta copy/paste that into your address bar. Add the "h" at the beginning too, because whenever I tried just putting the whole link in it would turn it into a link instead of keeping it as text and you couldn't copy it.

Agreed. Although I don't like Yaphet Kotto from what I remember, and I haven't really heard any Waifle but I've heard a lot about them. Same with A Day's Refrain. Orchid's one of my favorite bands.

hm, you probably listened to yaphet kotto's more emo stuff with a few screams, they have some pretty killer stuff that's a bit more noisey/faster, but yah, orchid takes the cake for one of the best screamo bands, along with pg99 ofcourse.

My list for favorite screamo bands of all time has to be something like Orchid, Neil Perry, Pg.99, Jerome's Dream, Saetia and Khayembii Communique. Yeah I should try downloading some more Yaphet Kotto because I think I only listened to one or two songs and they weren't that good.

If you want heavy politics I'd suggest real 80's hardcore, Early Bad Religion, Black Flag, 7 Seconds etc.

Good screamo is never Christian, not same with most of the hardcore stuff. Underoath isn't screamo, nor is it hardcore. In fact it's not even close.

Well, I don't like screamo, but I am in a few bands. (death/grind stuff mostly)
First, write some songs with your band. If you are okay with doing covers, learn a lot of those, but still write furiously. Try to keep your set about 50% or under cover songs. Once you have about 8-12 songs down good find some places that have either open mic nights, or that it is cheap to rent. Most places you can snag for $50.
Get a few other bands that you know to play with you, if you don't know any bands that's okay to... you'll just want a much longer set. Tell all of your friends and what not. Offer the show for free the first couple of times.
Now all you need to do is wait and time will come and more songs you can learn and MANY more you can write. Pretty soon you can start asking around to open for bands, and grow a small following. Then you can start charging for shows. (try to stay under $5, just to be nice)
It's a horrible way to make money. But then again I play communist grind/death metal in a small conservative christian town in rural Arkansas. So of course I'm not making money.
If you ever need some help, just PM me.

Atreyu are good screamo. Funeral for a friend's first full-length album, called 'casually dressed and deep in conversation' or something like that is a classic screamo album. Saosin are bordering on screamo and also very good.
KC
16th January 2006, 04:19
Atreyu's shitty metalcore, which says alot because all metalcore is shitty.
Funeral For A Friend is post-hardcore, as is Saosin. Check out the link I posted above to the screamo shrine for a big list of screamo bands.

I agree with you up to a point.
Dillinger Escape Plan are fucking amazing. Despite them being metalcore, their math and tech additives gives it a life and best of all, a longevity which hardly any bands have.

Screamo. Hah!
All you have to do is scream "I want to cut myself and die!" instead of just singing "I want to cut myself and die!" like a regular emo band would.

Screamo bands barely have music about that. At least I don't think I've heard any, and I've heard a lot of screamo.

Well, it all depends on if you like it or not. This (http://www.hxcmp3.com/play.php?band_id=31355&song_id=84031&mode=song_hifi) is one of my favorite screamo songs.

haha atreyu is so crappy. although there's some OK metalcore out there like converge, curl up and die, burnt by the sun and..yah that's about it. also, don't get screamo confused with all that "my life sucks and so does my girlfriend wahwahwah" emo stuff with a few screams in it, though most screamo bands are emotional alot are also political.

Although I'm going to have to agree with you that Converge is decent, I really detest the "metalcore" scene. Most of the bands are shitty (with a few exceptions, such as Nehemiah), the metal scene here is completely played out with scenesters, and by biggest point of contention would have to be chug dancing replacing moshing. I don't care if they do it at metal shows, but when people start chug dancing at grindcore shows (Hewhocorrupts) or screamo/hardcore shows (Since By Man) is when I get pissed off and start fucking people up. Chug dancing is so elitist; moshing is for everybody. The very fact of people performing for others and being put up on a pedastal of sorts is what the scene is supposed to be against. That's why I also hate the concept of stages. The band should be down with the people.

i wouldn't even consider hewhocorrupts as a grindcore band, but i get what you mean, the "Scene" here is filled with kids who had nothing to do with hardcore or actual metal a year ago and are now straight edge and claim to have always liked hardcore, it's funny how they went from rap-metal hot-topic bands who wanted to be outcast and cry about how no one gets while drinking and smoking weed to now being straight edge and being all about "unity". it's fucking disgusting if you ask me, but there are some kids out there who are in it for the right reasons and listen to actual hardcore, not this At The Gates-ripping off mid-tempo chugga-chugga-two step-like-you're-having-a-seizure-and-flail-around-like-a-ninja shit. i think "metalcore" was best when it ment bands like Earth Crisis and 25TaLife. but anywho, i just hope the next trend isn't crust punk and we have dickheads walking around saying they're vegan/anarchist because they just got their entire ideology from the inserts in their 7'' records. bleh.

Jumping up and down on the spot isn't moshing at all. Moshing is people just running into each other, which sounds boring, but is really one of the best things ever. Circle pits are amazing.

ye. not that boring shit they do at metal concerts
circle pits are the most amazing thing ever.
if you really get into it it is the most orgasmic thing in the world
music is so loud it blocks everything else out, everything becomes a blur and there is just that intense adrealine feeling

I know what you mean! Whats with that jumping up and down bullshit? Floor punches, flying punches, windmills, roundhouse kicks etc are the way to go.
One time my best mate smacked me right in the fucking face doing a windmill and went flying, I've also dyslocated my thumb as well.
I remember the first time I saw floor punches and roundhouses being done of a dance floor and I was like wtf? But once you start doing it its fucking amazing lol.

I don't know about the other bands but Caliban isn't hardcore. It's more mathcore/metalcore than anything.

I know what moshing is but what are those there other things?
I went to a sold out show in January and was in the very front the whole time. I was pretty much pinned up there so yeah. Behind the guy that was pinning me everybody was "dancing". And at one point I got knocked down into the circle when some kid stage dove onto my head and ofcourse I couldn't support his fatass. Anyways, I wish i would've dressed to impress so I coulda gone in there and flailed my arms and legs violently with everbody else. Next time.
