I was curious about the views of some of the members of this board inregard to Libya and Communism.
Although Ghaddafi seems to have invented his own system ( seperate from capitalism and communism ), it seems to me that Libya has come the closet to achieving Communism.
I might be wrong, but I'm just curious to hear what others think.

No, it's not anything near communism, or even socialism. Essentially they are a military dictatorship in a red wrappping. It is ruled by Islamic law. Many people are uneducated and there is a lot of poverty. The people do not have much power, and their votes don't really matter. Many of the industries that were previously owned by the state are now being privatized. No country has ever come remotely close to achieving communism.

" Many of the industries that were previously owned by the state are now being privatized"
Wow I didn't know that, it would seem then that sadly Libya is moving away from Socialism and also from Ghaddafi's theory.
Is there a source online where I can read about this privatization?

There is no such thing as a "new system" which can be induced "from above" by a certain leader.
Lybia is capitalist; its economic relations between individuals are fouded on wage labor, just like anywhere else in the world. Is it lassiez faire, mixed or state owned economy doesn't really matter, because it can only give us the answer to a question about the internal and external form of certain system, which is still capitalist in it's economic essence.

No, Lybia is trying to be nice to America. And if they wont become communist because Ghaddafi is trying to be nice to George Bush and going to Communism would fuck that up.
