so yesterday night the house of commons had a vote on whether the case for war on Iraq had been made. the results were 199 saying no, and something like 290 saying yes. now this is a loss, but its still a huge amount of MPs going against the governments stance, especially as the opposition party is backing the government up. it was estimated beforehand the number would be around 150. i think its 122 labour MPs who voted no.
any in fighting is good if it stalls things, but i still dont put too much hope in them. theres no proper left wing MPs in there, after all. at best theres the lib dems who i guess are slightly to the left. i noticed neither the PM or the foreign secretary guaranteed there would definatly be another vote, specifically on the use of military action.
oops, the topic title came out totally wrong. i meant specifically the events last night, not just generally people going against their party, that of course is good.
