So...
Who here likes Rage ?

I think they are an awesome band, and they are pretty leftist.
They are among the rare bands who reflect the mentality of the people in their lyrics.
Their sound is just unique. I never heard a band that sounds like them and isn't a rip-off/cover...

I recently started listening to them more. It's rumored that Zach de la Rocha (sp) is releasing an album on the 31st, but I have not heard this from a reliable source. Audioslave is nice, but their activism, from what I can see, is found outside their music. Rage wasn't afraid to speak their mind at the expensive of profit.

where did you read that he's releasing an album ?

If you want Rage albums here's a good site www.funkblast.com (http://www.funkblast.com)

From a wikipedia article on him. It said that an album was suspected to be released in December, and now it says the 31st. Not 100% reliable, though. Wikipedia said Tool would have a CD out by the end of the year, I think, but it has been switched to spring (though now info was being posted on the tool site to my knowledge).

I don't know if you guys have heard of The Nightwatchman but it's Tom's solo project and is still very political. He ussally just plays acoustic and sings and has a very, very deep singing voice :D . I don't know if he has an album but some of his stuff is on the Axis of Justice CD.

For me 'Battle of Los Angeles' is the best album. And after that 'Rage Against the Machine' and 'Renegades'.

'Evil Empire' was okay, but not as good as the three above...

the battle of la was a grammy winning alblum with more then 3 hits on it..im going to create a band like this..musical instruments are the real WMD's..

oh ratm is my fav. band of all time..im listening to them right now..i think tom morello is like a guitar god but i honestly think that the nightwatchman sucks..he cant sing and no 1 really wants to listen to it..rage needs to come back for now..audioslave is good but chris is a pussy

Rockfan
30th December 2005, 06:05
Why is Chris a pussy? If I was them I'ed be doing exacltly what there up to, distincing themselves from there former bands. Soundgarden is an awsome band, as inovative as RATM in there genre. The Nightwatchman isn't really singing most of the time, more like folk poetry to music, and I wanna here more of his stuff, so thats one.

People sorry to burst your little bubble of hope but RATM, unfortunatly, aren't comeing back. You know how Metallica got that theropist?!?, RATM used the same guy before them and it diddn't work. Maybe there's gonna be a reunion concert in 20 years time but there won't permanently get back togeather. I've been in the situation they were in, you never really want to play in a band with a person who walked out again.

I enjoy them a lot. "Sleep Now in the Fire" has an awesome video, one of my all-time favorites. The self-titled CD is probably my favorite. Battle of L.A. is second.

I'm not a huge fan of Audioslave's music though.

and also did you all know that tom is a harvard graduate and the nephew of the first pres. of kenya?

I love rage. Their lyrics message and motive were better when they were rage but musicly i perfer them after the break up as Audioslave.

I've got it. The rage boys do Bulls On Parade while Chris goes off stage, they cut stright into the solo when the first verse comes in, I have to say, it's the best Bulls On Parade solo I've heard. Then they go stright into Sleep Now In The Fire and Chris comes back to sing it, he doesn't do to baddly. Chris also does Black Hole Sun by himself and they play Outshined and Spoonman by soundgarden which sound alright.

the video was ok..but what im saying is, is that if zach was with the band and they played cuba kids and stuff would want to learn more about cuba and why they decided to play there...its still cool that they played cuba but!...RATM was def. more better..know your enemy had a crazy solo...testify rules..not one singer can pull more success out of the ratm guys..u know this slow music is killin them...they wanna ri out like bulls on parade and stuff with zach again..how do i have proof? they had chris cornell ruin sleep now in the fire.. lol

Rockfan

Well what you think of Sleep Now In The Fire is your opinion so what ever, It dosesn't really jisterfy calling him a pussy, I think for a guy who was in grunge band from Seattle, he does pritty well. However, all this talk about the slow songs and how there "killing" the RATM sound, there're trying to get away from RATM, don't you understand that, there not RATM anymore, sure they pull out the odd cover now and the do Soundgarden stuff as well, but there trying to get away from the ex-bands. I don't think RATM playing Cuba would have given many people an intrest in it. I mean you only have to look at pics of RATM crowds, a vast majority look like they know a fair bit about Cuba, most fans get into the politics when they lisen to RATM anyway.

anyone got audioslaves latest album? its pretty cool - way better than their first one no matter what you think of them!
they might be slower than rage but theyve still got the awsome riffs from the rage days, but they dont have the lyrics! - IMO

Oh I miss them so much! The latest I've heard from Zach, is on Saul Williams self-titled album. I think Their debut is the best. I wasn't really feeling Renegades, I'll give it another shot.

I like RATM very much(As the name and Icon emply :) )

Does anyone know for a fact if Zachs solo album is going to be released at all?

I go to ZDLR.net and the news there was that in a confrence Trent Resnor said that like 20 of Zachs tracks were never going to see the light of day.

Not very creative though is it?

"FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT THEY TELL ME, FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT THEY TELL ME, FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT THEY TELZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ"

I mean, come on. Ok, they represent "left-wing" views, but it's hardly genius songwriting. And I don't really like the music.

See The Strokes new album for some clever, subtle political undertoning. Especially "Ize of the World".

SoM,that’s why tastes are different.Somebody love songs with more words, someone doesn’t.Somebody love aggressive songs full of rage, and again there’s opposite side.

Yea,you can’t hear a lot of lyrics in “Killing in the name of” but all fans and people who like it can say that it consists all that stuffs what I wrote (aggressive...),but there are songs as “People Of The Sun”(one of my favs)where you can find much more lyrics with story and you can’t say there’s not enough.

But however,as you already wrote,if you don’t like their music there’s nothing else to say about this.

No, don't get me wrong. I appreciate their music as artists. But I was just explaining why I'm not their biggest fan.

What about "Sleep now in the fire" and "Guerrilla Radio"

'It has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime - what better place than here, what better time than now! All Hell can't stop us now!'

^^^^ That's awesome!

Yeah, still, I mean it's pretty direct. I'm not knocking them that much though. I just mean I don't really like them.

But that song WAS genius because it was so simple in what it did and managed to do something that wasn't done before. It was an attention grabber.

The rest of their songs have plenty complex and intelligent lyrics. Zach was a very clever lyricist. He wasn't always the best at subtletly, but Rage is one of those few bands that shouldn't be subtle.

Anyone band who has a member that jumps up on a big pole and disses limp bizket hs my respect.

So you wouldn't call it clever, when in Bulls On Parade, he sings:

"Weapons, not food, not homes not shoes,
Not need just feed the war cannibal animal. I
Walk the corner to the rubble that used to be a library.
Line up to the mind cemetery now.
What we don't know keeps the contracts alive and movin'
They don't gotta burn the books, they just remove them.
While arms warehouses fill as quick as the cells,
Rally round the family, pocket full of shells."

Nor is he clever, in Know Your Enemy, with

"Yes I know my enemies,
They're the teachers that taught me to fight me.
Compromise, conformity, assimilation, submission,
Ignorance hypocrisy, brutality, the elite.
All of which are American dreams (8x)"

Yeah, no talent....

For fuck's sake guys, I didn't say they were shit! What I mean is, those lyrics are still direct. There's no undertone, no analogy or metaphor. And I'm NOT criticising that.

I JUST said I don't like them.

Oh, and the slating of Limp Bizkit also gets my backing.
