View Full Version : SHARON HAS A GOVERNMENT

tonight, Sharon signed what seems to be the last coalition agreement, with the far-right party The National Union.
Sharon's new government is composed of 4 parties. Sharon's party, the Likud, with 40 seats in the knesset, Shinui, the fanatic secular party with 15 seats, the National Religous Party with 6 seats, and the National Union with 7 seats. Sharon has a steady government with 68 seat in the knesset out of 120.
this government brings nothing but despair. Sharon said that he is obliged to an agreement with the palestinians, but with an extreme right government, along with the National Union, a party that opposes a palestinian state and supports the deportation of all palestinans from the occupied territories, it seems that an agreement will remain nothing but a dream. Sharon also said that an agreement is necessary to reach an agreement in order to rehabilitate israel's collapsing economy, but with a minister of finances who has no economical experience whatsoever, and Shinui, a neo-liberal capitalist party, as a prime member in the government, is seems as if inflation is all we will be left with.
so... we will have sharon for 4 years and 7 months... with him and arafat controling the region, i am not encouraged.
may we have peace.

Ohh my god....I hoped that shinui will stay out...The party is neo-liberal, but shinui wants freedom.
But I am really reliefed that the socialists are ot in the coalition,.tat would been their death. If they had coalated, they woudn't have been better than sharon.
I like Mitzna, lets hope that he remains the boss of the party.

Mitzna is a disaster to the labor party. he absolutely destroyed. for the first time in history, the labor party has less than 20 seats in the knesset, and that is under mitzna. i hope that elections take place soon, and Vilnai takes charge. i don't agree with any of them, and i am a supporter of the labor party, but it is still the largest leftist party. it needs someone who has leadership, someone who has guts and a clear vision, not someone like mitzna. mitzna lies to his knesset member and decieves them. when he met sharon he said that they didn't negotiate, but now i hear that he already closed a ministers list with him. the knesset members knew nothing about it. a real leader needs to take charge, and rehabilitate the party.
the left has weakened greatly. there are 3 parties which i can define as "left" - labor party, meretz, and hadash, which is the communist party. all of them have weakened during these elections. the labor from 26 to 19 seats, meretz from 9 to 6, and hadash from 3 to 2. a new leader to the labor party will bring back a lot of people to the left.

Really???I liked him because he said no to any kind of coalition with the Likuders.
How's the situation in the party??Are there alternatives?

there will be elections to the chairman of the party in about a year or so. maybe sooner if mitzna resigns. i'm guessing the Ben Eliezer, who was Sharon's minister of defence will run, as well as Vilnai, who was Sharon's minister of science. they will run for sure. besides them Burg may run, who is the former speaker of the knesset. of the three of them vilnai will probably win. he has leadership, and will surely re-build the party mitzna has destroyed.
i'm not sure sharon's new government will last 4 years. a possible scenario is that sharon, who celebrated his 75th birthday yesterday, will pass away while in office. in this case, Ulmert, minister of commerce and industry, will take his place. he's a little shitbag, and won't be able to hold the coalition together. then we'll have elections sooner.
don't look at the labor party as socialist. they are social-democrat. the real socialists in the knesset are Hadash, the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality.

the situation in israel is really fucked up. Lets hope that sharon passes away.
btw whats meretz?

meretz was founded a few years ago by people who left the labor party because it was not left enough for them. meretz is more to the left than the labor party. it's between labor and Hadash, the communist party. although it's not really socialist, but social-democrat, it's much more to the left concerning the palestinian conflict.

Do you think that Mitzna is responsible for the labor party doing poorly? From what i had heard, a bad result was expected, and Mitzna was still considered to be doing an OK job.

according to surveys, before mitzna started his campaign, the labor party got 24 seats. after he started his campaign in got 22, then 20, and in reality it got 19. so he pretty much lost 5 seats in the knesset, which went to the likud.
the worst party is probably the National Union, who advocate the idea of Transfer - deportation of all palestinians from the occupied territories to jordan, egypt and syria.

aren't such parties illegal???
The national union reminds me in a party whi was founded by a crazy austrian in 1922.

no... the arab parties tried to pass a law saying that a party that has the word "transfer" in its platform is illegal, but without much success, since the government, of course, opposed it...
technically transfer is legal because they don't talk about forced deportation (although that's what they mean), but about deportation through an agreement with the arab countries... anyway, they at least weakened in these elections, and lost one seat.

do you really think that this is good?I'd rather see a divided enemy than an united one...
