Without addressing the anti-American sentiment that is growing so rapidly around the world, we will not find security or peace creating an endless state of war. America says it is fighting for freedom and democracy while many other people and nations would say America is fighting for control and the McCorporations. Americans do not see themselves as a global empire while most people and nation around the world do. Yesterday’s weapons of protection are today’s threats of destruction and annihilation of the world, as we know it today. Many of the strengths of yesterday become the weakness of tomorrow in an evolving society.

The American society has greatly profited from the economic exploitation of the indigenous people of the world. America can win the military war while losing the economic. and political battles weakening our nation. The American government’s domestic and foreign policies are so out of whack many foreign leaders are losing confidence in America’s leadership. Today nations are so inter-dependent on one and another economically while being so divided political on a national and international level. The fate of the American’s security today is in the hands of banks in Peking and Tokyo.

To all of those people who say “God Bless America” God has blessed America and America has abused that blessing. Many of the world’s great innovative advancements have been made by Americans people from all over the world bring great wealth. It is how America has used her great wealth and power that is in question. Leading by example and not through military strength will bring peace and security. Only by American addressing their problems at home can they help those in need around the world. The problems we face as a nation are only a snapshot of those we face as a world. While trying to demilitarize the world we are militarizing our nation. The hypocrisy between what we say and what we do is at the roots to many of our problems.

If the Americans want to be a strong leader in the world that people and nations look up too with respect and dignity, we will have to overhaul our domestic and foreign policies. The health and security of our nation influences the condition of the people in the world. Too often disputes between nation arise from a lack of understanding of history bring us to this point. Only by bring our political and economic policies into balance will we begin to address the real problem we face. Whether it is the war in Iraq or the poppy fields in Afghanistan or our national debt the American people are going to pay for the mistakes.

I think it is a bit harsh, Ownthink, to say that only the 'intellectually weak' believe in 'God'. In truth, I feel sorry for those who hold this belief. It is all too often the case that they know no other reality, and the thought that their mythological being in the sky may not exist probably doesn't even enter their mind. Theists are conditioned to believe. They are conditioned to believe from the day they are born, and 'God' is presented to them as something not spiritual but material, with a 'direct impact' upon their lives. I used to believe in 'God', I'll admit it, but I had the freedom to look at new possibilities. I had the freedom to learn. Too many are dragged to Church every Sunday against their wishes. They are thus stripped of this freedom to learn. After a while of that, anyone will begin to believe. It is truly a tragedy.

I was dragged there every Sunday for 15 years, and look how I turned out.

Perhaps you're just fortunate! In any case, good for you. I am curious as to how you came to reject the 'idea of God', something so many are unable to do.

Have you read anything of the 'fundamentalists' in America? It is most disgusting to see how these people live. They believe sincerely that Christ will return to earth one day. These people typically have not a single book in the homes, besides, of course, the Bible and that wonderful Left Behind series (in which all 'non-believers' are sent to hell by the 'merciful Lord'! But if you should ever go up to one of them and argue with them about their faith, why, you'd probably have punches thrown your way. These 'fundies' are aware of no other reality. Is it really their fault, when not a day goes by that they are not bombarded by the stink of Christianity?

It does seem that a few escape this 'fundie' phenomenon. I've heard a few success stories from ex-Christians, stories much like yours. So it is not 'impossible' for fundies to rid themselves of their idealism, but, it seems to be damned difficult.

War in God’s Name

How could your God the creator of life and nature be so intolerant of the ways of others in this world? To condemn so many people to hell for not believing in your beliefs, to kill or raise money in God’s name to enrich ones own life is the greater sin. With all of the knowledge and wisdom in the world to only take one of books the Bible, Koran or Torah for the truth and answers to the world’s problems is not very wise or holy. Those in power and control should be held to a higher level of accountability for the problems in the world. One should not past judgment onto another unless they are willing to be judged themselves.

With conflicting morals and values of one-system verses another systems a divide is created. Great fortunes of wealth are made on the exploitation of a political, economic and cultural divide between people. With religious leaders taking the higher ground with their extremist views and perspective deepening the human divide. The main role of the federal or national government is to provide physical security for the people within their nation. The government’s policies must keep in balance the role of religion and state as well as corporate and people’s rights within a society. Only by dissemination of knowledge, information, and wealth can a government of a society be responsible to the people it serves.

For one nation to dictate and control much of the global and military policies around the world often in the name of God is wrong. The great creator of the universal and the spirit of nature and earth would be so narrow minded as those who are preaching the words of God. People who lead us into wars over religious and political differences between nations of people are doing the devil’s work. Only by addressing the internal problems of a nation will there be a change for peace and security at home and aboard. Only by holding the same standards at home and aboard on all sides of the divide will we have peace and security around the world. A transparent multilateral platform must control any military actions taken by any one of the world’s global super power nations against any other another nation.
