This post will probably only be familiar to those living in the UK, but here goes;
I read in the paper today (The Independant) that the British government is planning to conduct surveillance on ALL car journeys in Britain, by new network of CCTV technology and existing cameras along our roads. There will be a huge database logging every liscence plate in the country as it travels along every road. How can this be allowed? This is a total infringment on civil rights and freedom, and although it may prevent the occasional crime or hit and run, we should be able to move freely without being monitored.
Aside from the ethical issues of this, how much is it going to cost? No doubt millions of pounds to set up and maintain it, money that could go to foreign aid or other dearly needed causes.
