After reading "Under the Banner of Heaven" about Mormons, I kind of grew depressed and upset. Some people killed babies because they said god told them to.

It's kind of ironic how atheists in general live under much better living standards than those who believe in god. You'd think 'god' would give 'believers' much better rewards and smite all the non believers  . At the same time, it's also sad that many people of working class backgrounds are brainwashed against Communism because it goes against their religious beliefs.

Although, I'm still going to keep kosher, because I don't think I could get used to traif.

So just because somebody claimed the God told them to kill children.....that makes it true?

It is as valid a "truth claim" as any other in the realm of the superstitious.

When someone claims "Divine Authority" for any act, there's no way to falsify that claim.

Even if "your favorite atrocity" lacks direct Biblical approval, you can usually find some similar atrocity and draw a "logical parallel".

Note that "God Himself" murdered all the "first born children" of all the Egyptians...not just the first-born children of the aristocracy at court who might have had some influence over the Pharaoh.

Therefore, if some contemporary murderer says that "God commanded him to do it", on what theological grounds can this possibly be disputed?

There are none!

The mormons are full of shit, even more so than the usual christian sects, although I like to lump them into one category, that being full of shit.
