Hi guys I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I've been interested in Che for a long time and I have read numerous biographies, articles and literature about him. What I've decided to do is write an essay for school about Che, but, my problem is that I can't find a topic.

Since this is a history essay, I need to have a topic where I can include and analyse historican debate. For example, a topic like "How successful were his guerilla tactics" doesn't allow for me to include much historical debate - the tactics were mostly successful and nobody disputes that.

I've brainstormed a few ideas and I think it would be cool to write an esay revolving around either his political life, how he influenced a specific country/the world, how he used his army, etc. The problem is I need sources and historiagraphy, and lots of them.

Do you guys have any ideas for topics where I will be able to include lots of historiography and historical debates/opinions so that I can analyse them? If you guys could direct me to any sources or books that would help me heaps. I really appreciate your help and I can't wait to start this essay!

What sort of historical debate is in it?

The topic "The international proletarian spirit of Che" might be good for you. If you choose this, I think you should express how Che became an international communist fighter from an asthmatic student. You may present Che's travels of Latin America and his itineraries to Congo and Bolivia. Also, you can analyse the events and factors which urged him to make the most important decisions in his life: joining the Cuban revolution and leaving Cuba to go to Congo and Bolivia. There were many controversies around Che's leaving and this is the point you may press to show your own opinions.

Thanks for the help. I'll pop down to my local and state libraries soon and see if they have any books about this. Any other suggestions?

Perhaps an essay over why Che's forays into the Congo and Bolivia failed? Hopes Guevara took my other idea.

Qiu, I really like the sound of this topic! I've also got some resources on Che's guerilla tactics and excerpts from his own guide which I will be able to include (as I'm sure his tactics played a role in his campaigns' failure) can you suggest any literature that debates this topic? At the moment I'm reading through Jon Lee Anderson's biography of Che... it's a good read!

I wrote a paper which main question was: "did Che's military campaign make a big impact in Bolivia"

Yes, my topic will probably include elements of that argument, too. Do you still have a copy of the essay? If you don't mind I would much like to read it...

I did one for school a while back, about the road to socailist thought. Quite a bit of the papaer focused on che's transformation into a leftist through various experiences in his life, such as the motorcycle trip and the events that transpired n Guatemala while he was there.

Well I'm not sure about how much the road to Socialist thought affected his actions on the Congo and Bolivia since this is more or less what I have decided to base the essay on. If it does, please tell me more!
