Right, "socialist".
She's going to continue the neoliberal IMF austerity programs that have ravaged the underdeveloped world for years.

It's the same coalition that's been in power since Pinochet left office in 1990 "man".
Capitalist status quo, nothing to get excited about.
Did you break out the red flags and start singing the internationale when the "socialist" president of Spain was elected?

"Though Bachelet promises to make half her Cabinet female if elected, there will be few economic changes no matter who is elected. All three major candidates have insisted they will work to reduce the gap between rich and poor and curb the 8 percent unemployment rate and rising crime rate in large cities. The candidates all say they aim at improving the current economic model, not changing it."

Yeah there is no change in ideology taking place. I'm curious as to whom the leader of the "communist" party is. How much better would he have been? Perhaps a Chavez style democratically elected leader? Trying to build socialism with a bourgeois model. I wonder why the people prefer this "socialist" over him.

¿SORRY? ¿Socialwhat? She won because she was in a coallition with some right-wing parties. That's not socialism.
It WAS Allende's party. A party wich agrees with capitalists theories, and dont want to nacionalizate their national resources it is not like Allende's Party.
The real socialist project was "Juntos Podemos Más". A very left-wing coallition of communists, humanist and radical left.

Socialist Party was a revolutionary party during Allende's time. But now it's just a socialdemocrat capitalist party.
They got a 5'7% in the presidentials and a 7'57% in the parlamient, but with the electoral system, they'll get no chairs in the parlamient.

I think shes socialist enough. She was tortured under Pinochet's orders along with her mam and her dad was killed under Pinochet's orders. She was put into exile and educated into leftism because of Pinochet. I mean, if that hasn't changed her into one of us I have no idea what would. I swear she seems pretty genuine leftwing stuff, maybe not a castro or chaevz but definately a step in the right direction and I hope she wins.

Well, I'm gonna explain my humild opinion of that ""socialist"" presidenta.
In that elections, she didn't presented her as the "socialist party" woman for precidence. She went as a woman for the presidence of the "Concentración Democrática".
What parties are there in Concentración Democrática?
* Partido Demócrata Cristiano (DC) (Democristians)
* Partido por la Democracia (PPD) (Center)
* Partido Radical Social Demócrata (Socialdemocrats)
* Partido Socialista (Socialdemocrats)
That's not left-wing. It's not just, not as Chávez. They apply liberalist policies. That's not left-wing man.

"Socialist" goverment in Spain? Well. I don't like them. They're socialdemocrats and they have a liberal minister of economy. Spain retired their troups in Iraq, but they still having troops in Afganistan. Better with the bastard of Aznar, but, that's not enough.

The communist party is alledgedly quite radical, however this is the best result that leftists could have feesably hoped for. Sure, she's not rosa luxe, burg or leon trotsky but neither was chavez when he was first elected and he's pretty radical now. I think that this will be a process worth watching for leftists.

Only watch it if you want to see capitalism in action.
I mean come on, Chile (under her coaltion), Mexico, and Colombia are the main forces pushing for the FTAA in the region!
