Blasphemy

before the beginning of World War I, mass protests were held in London against the war. a day after the war started, which was july 4th if i remember correctly, almost all the socialist parties gave in, and started supporting the war. during the war, the other joined in, and retired from the opposition.
will the same happen in iraq? what we see today in the streets of london, madrid and germany is an uprising against the war. but will it fail after the war begins, just like the socialist resistance against WWI failed?

I don't think so. Here in the U.S. it's starting to look like the 1960s all over again. I love it.

I don't think that will happen either. WWI and this war against Iraq are completely different. Germany was being very aggressive, trying to overtake neighboring countries left and right. Iraq is only supposedly doing things. At least with WWI the socialists were supporting a war that actually had a bit of a genuine cause. I believe that if this war happens, the only people supporting it will be the ones who already are.

The first communist international fell apart because socialists became divided into nationalist lines. There were many socialists who still opposed the war, such as Lenin, Luzemburg, Connolly, Debs and many others.
In Britain, work stoppages and huge acts of civil disobedience are being planned.

The party's are of the people, their power lies completly in our hands. Their actions only succeed if enough people participate.
If we stay anti-war, the parties will stay anti-war too. It completly depends on us, the excistense and succes of the parties completly depends on us.
And praxis, I don't think that we will get a second vietnam situation, because the fuckfaces aka Bush administration completly rule the press. To bring the truth to the ignorant civilian we must have some sort of independant news sources.
In Vietnam newscrews could see everything, they saw their own dead soldiers, they saw crimes commited by US soldiers, they saw blood, they the real face of war.
Now after 30 years those images has vaded, the same people who were students at the time, protesting, are now supporting the war in name of "God" and "Patriotisme".
So we need independant strong media to bring the real face of war back to the homes of the people!
If we don't this war will develop just like the Balkan wars did, no one looked at even one victim of "the other side", but when 3 American GI's were kidnapped the whole media lived with them, interviews with parents and stories about how they were heroes.

well, it depends.
If the "socialist parties" are not marxist, then they will fall into nationalist ideas, they will not realise (as happened in the 80's in britain with the falklands war) that the working class is the working class the world over, and would support the government.
We should never class collaborate, not Brtish victory over Iraq, not Iraqi victory over Britain, but VICTORY FOR THE WORKING CLASS!

I wonder how many leaders of workers parties post in these message boards, or if they are too busy being divided, as you have said, on national lines. I believe that division still exists today, or esle their wouldn't be the CPC the CPQ and other entities, it would just the Communist Party of this World.
"If we stay anti-war, the parties will stay anti-war too. It completly depends on us, the excistense and succes of the parties completly depends on us."
If at the protests we get communist speakers to talk to the masses we could shift the focus slowly left. At my school I am trying to organize a walk out with the other highschool in town (at best) or an anti-war assembly (at worst) I will sure be saying something about communism...gently though.

I think it all depends. American conservatives are comparing this war to WWII and how millitary action in that time was crucial, though we had little proof. Anyone who opposed WWII most deffinitely supported it after it became know what Hitler was doing. Though, if it turns out to be like the Vietnam War, the conservatives will see that we really had no reasons to fight and the efforts had been useless and that we lefties were right all along.

I know some lefties who are comparing this current drive for war to WWII. We must stop the American aggression and racism, not the other way around.
