So I'm new here, and I'm a young guy. I like to think of myself as being educated on politics and the issues (at least for a 16 year old), but I do recognize that I am ignorant on many levels and that I do have a lot to learn. I consider myself a socialist and have longed for a place where i can discuss my beliefs with others that have similar beliefs that may also teach me something. Since I started submitting to more leftist views since middle school, my beliefs have changed a lot, from communism, to anarchism, to socialism, to nihilism, to mixed economy socialism. . . blah blah blah.

So, getting to the point (since I'm a rambler), what do you all think of a mixed economy socialism? Lately it's what I've been considering my beliefs to be, just because its the most peaceful transition from capitalism to socialism. Democracy, of course, would be essential to it in my opinion, and none of that representative democracy. That seems kind of aristocratic to me (I think this is the right term for rule of the elite). Large corporations would be taken over by the government, while allowing small businesses to exist. Socialist rights would be granted to the masses, ie socialized medicine. Also, this would ensure that none live under a certain level, and that all are provided for, but there is still a certain amount of room to rise above that level, but without reaching ridiculous heights. I know this is really basic, but I want you all to help me out and get my brain working a little bit. I need to be educated! There's only so much you can pick up from reading, the rest must come from discussions and argument! Thanks for all the help.

Stay Left.

The only problem is that now you have a strong government that cant be questioned. Under capitalism the capitalists have to fight each other for power, under what it sounds like your suggesting the government would have complete unchallenged control over are means of production. That’s worse then the capitalists because now they also control the guns.

But doesn't socialism imply a government controlled economy?

Somewhat. But the thing you must remember is the word government isn't the normal bourgeois sense of government that you are thinking of. A socialist state is ultra-democratic. It is run by the workers. It is run by all workers. So it is somewhat run by the "government" but it's more like it's run by every proletarian in that country.

Hm, good point.

I know I said it before, but I personally think that this representative government stuff in the US is bullshit and is just a type of aristocracy. What do you all think?
